I still keep some vhs tapes around. I picked up some gems back in the early days of dvd when vhs was cheaper and I was only in high school and broke. Also, a lot of the stuff I want(ed) to see never made a DVD release. To see "Kiss meets the Phantom of the Park" I had to get it on vhs. Also, there's something about watching a really horrible 80's-90's horror flick on vhs.

With the move to digital, there is an actual physical lack of depth in the projection of the movie. It's part of why I still pay to go to a theatre. There's just something great about film.

Was the Star Wars Holiday Special preserved through VHS tapes?
count 3, all three are part of the war unlike your beta/vhs/dvd mount. DVD wasn't around during the beta/vhs war, and beta wasn't around during the DVD/vhs war... and that was hardly a war, that was a progression (the vhs to dvd part). With BD and HD-DVD on the market trying to absorb a share in the film distribution, you have a war. You have 3 guys, all viable storage mediums, and all 3 have supporters who want them to win or stay. When DVD came along, we were ready as a market to get rid of our VHS tapes en mass. We aren't ready to toss away our DVDs for the next best thing. It thusly is part of the war.
Yeah, but I look at DVD to Blu Ray as a progression just like VHS to DVD, which I find different then Blu Ray vs HD DVD. It's just weird that it's taking place this soon.

But to go back on topic, I still have all of my VHS tapes save for my 007 box sets which I sold (taking up too much room, plus I got the new DVD box sets). I plan to keep my VHS tapes until I either have them all on DVD or they stop working. One of these days I need to stock up on some blank VHS tapes because, as I said in my other post, I find the timer programmer very useful like a DVR. I don't see them around too often, but when I do they're usually very cheap, like a 5 pack for 5 dollars.

Majors wrote:When anime first came out here, it was all VHS. Store bought or bootleg/dub'd, if you wanted anime, it was VHS. Some purist (read: fanboys) had LD's, but it was too much dough for my ass back then. I still have few shelves of tapes collecting dust, never to be watched again...too much new shit coming out plus so easy to get with the internet.

On a side note, I never got into collecting DVDs after I looked at all the VHS tapes I had plucked money down on.
I remember the days of copying vhs anime tapes, it was the only way to get it and sometimes you had a copy of a copy of a copy with so low quality but you didn't care. We had betamax when I was a kid then we switch to vhs when video rentals didn't want to bring beta tapes anymore. The bad thing about that format was the duration, humidity just kills them.

I still think the best way to watch kungfu is on VHS. Granted my BBC Scifi collection on VHS is growing monthly - Red Dwarf and Doctor Who mostly, though there are some others mixed in.

Yeah I got the movie as well...

not a big fan of Jack Black, actually I find him really annoying and I want to punch him in the face when I see movies he is in.

But he is all right in this film. I didn't want to punch him as frequently, and when I did it seemed more like I wanted to punch the character and not Jack Black for being Jack Black.

Mos Def on the other hand, love him!

I was really really skeptical about that flick, but it turned out to be GREAT.

I'm glad this topic got revived. I just recently got some gems on vhs. Masters of the Universe(live action), Night of the Zombies, Shane, High Plains Drifter, and a few others...
