SNES image issue I cant solve

Post by kiario »

Hello,

Got a PAL SNES and the problem is that the top 5cm of the screen is heavily bent and distorted. Does not happen all the time. In super mario world it starts at first level some screens to the right.

Strange thing is that it happens on three CRT TV's 21" to 29" but not on a 14" TV.
And it happens on SCART connection.

Cant for the love of my life figure this out. :)

Why on the big TV's and not on the small?!?

Thanks for any help

My guess is that it's the way that TV is processing the image.

Unscrew your scart cable and check if there are capacitors inside. From what I have read, the PAL SNES scart cables aren't supposed to have capacitors in them. Where did you get your scart cable? It might be designed for PAL GCs and N64s. I have scart cable that is meant for NTSC SNES systems that is set up the same way as the PAL Gamecube scart cables.

If your scart cable has capacitors in it you can follow this guide and try removing them:

Or you can buy a scart cable that is designed for PAL SNES systems here:

Good luck! RGB scart has an awesome picture quality. I'm jealous you folks over in the UK get to use it without a converter.

Yeah, there's a chart on this page that explains pretty well which cables should have which components...

PAL SNES cables should have 75ohm resistors to ground on composite, R, G, and B lines and no caps.
