I'll have to think on this a bit more though.
Perhaps you'd be convinced to sell if I slapped you with a bundle of cash?

Seriously though, I can understand why you'd consider doing it. You'd come out of it with much the same collection and some profit.

I wouldn't do it, but I'm a little too attached to clean, complete packaging. Its part of the draw for me. Loose carts drive me crazy.

That said, if you ever decide to sell, I'm sure I'd buy at least a couple of things.

Download a game/demo off of PSN. Install it, start it up... aaaand there's an update that has to be downloaded and installed.

WTF, why aren't these updates preinstalled? It's a downloadable title!

Slapping me with wads of cash would definitely serve as a good motivator.

I'm not sure. Like you, I love clean nice packaging. Plus it keeps the carts dust free. On the other hand, I play my old systems with such little frequency that it feels like I'm sitting on some free money having all these CIB games.

That is annoying. At least the games work properly when you're offline unlike Steam which just sorta does what it wants.

I think a lot of Steam behavior is based on what the game publisher wants, since some games don't need any kind of authentication where others need to get verified online every so often.

PSN is more proactive if you have Plus, in which case it'll grab updates and things when the system is not being used. I think that the initial downloads might not be updated due to the approval/certification processes.

I found this just now to expand on the topic of obscure Genesis launch publishers that for the most part only released games in the first year or two, and also pretty much released games for the Genesis only, this ad pretty much covers all of them that can be defined as obscure -

The First 17 Publishers

So we have

Treco
Micronet
Sage's Creation
Dreamworks
Seismic
INTV Corp
Kyugo Trading
Nuvision
Razor Soft

Yes, I know EA is there too, but there's a reason I'm not gonna mention them, Tengen, Activision, Kaneko, et al. I also understand INTV's pedigree with late 80s Intellivision & NES activity, but up until now I had no idea they'd publish on the Genesis either. Was that game featured even released?

Those of us with big backlogs... we are quite solidly the minority according to Gamefaqs' poll of the day.

UPDATE

It turns out the source for that "17 Genesis Publishers" ad spread was a blog by none other than Jess Ragan (The Gameroom Blitz, Retronauts contributor at 1up.com). He actually dug up a bit of information on these obscure & not so obscure early Genesis publishers, and is well worth a read.

http://kiblitzing.blogspot.com/2012/10/ ... first.html Part 1 - Treco, Nuvision, Renovation, Kyugo Trading, INTV Corp, Kaneko

http://kiblitzing.blogspot.com/2012/10/ ... st_22.html Part 2 - Seismic, Sage's Creation, Tengen, Activision, Namco, EA

http://kiblitzing.blogspot.com/2012/10/ ... st_25.html Part 3 - Video System, Dreamworks, Razor Soft, Technosoft, Micronet, plus bonus on Taito.

Knowing more about these early publishers is a gaming oddity I can finally lay to rest.

Sly 4 is out today, and it's good! Will definitely be picking it up, the fact it's launching at $40 seals the deal.

Feeling that pressure to get a PSVita more and more.

Just a few more games and I'll likely cave.

Micronet (Bignet) did release a bit more than the others, and for other Japanese systems too.

INTV didn't end up releasing Curse over here, no.
