Theres not much in local FPS Multiplayer for the Wii, or FPS that are any good in general.

The Conduit 2 was probably the best one I've played. However me and some friends did have fun playing Red Steel multiplayer and just ragging on it the entire time.

Only other fps I think for of for Wii that would have good local multiplayer might be the Metroid Prime Trilogy. That is if they kept the Metroid 2 multiplayer in it. I do not know for sure as my copy is still sealed.

Zero Tolerance for the genesis had a controller port link cable you could use to play the game two player.

I haven't got the stuff to try it, but since it's the only multiplayer FPS on the genesis as far as I know, I suppose it's one of the best.

The cable doesn't look to hard to build at least.

EDIT:I see now that the OP says PS1 and up. This is out then.

O yea and theres Goldeneye Wii, it supports 4 player split & a few good controller options. I almost forgot about that one

Cant go wrong with Halo. Ratchet and Clank 3 and 4 on the PS2 have 2-4 player offline splitscreen multiplayer. R&C3 is superioir as a platformer/R&C game, but R&C4 was built to play like a third person shooter more so than any other R&C game and it seemed to have more polished multiplayer maps so it's probably the better choiche.

Quake 3 atleast is very crippled on the DC. Haven't played UT on DC but given that they're about the same pace, I reckon it's the same.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Outtrigger for Dreamcast is great split screen. Stays at a brisk 60 fps at all times, even when both players are using a mouse and keyboard configuration.

Quake II for the PS1 is pretty incredible. It takes a mess of hardware to get it working, but with 2 multitaps, 4 mice, and 4 controllers you can play 4 player split screen where every player has a mouse configuration. It's mind blowing that a developer actually attempted this at the time.

Final Doom for PS1 has some pretty solid link play support. No split screen though. :(

Beat me to it. Its my favorite bit of Genesis trivia, even though its not very fun.

I have a list somewhere about this - Ack and I were working on a FPS History book for a while and I complied a great amount of info on it. Ill dig into my emails in a minute to find it.

Edit:
Partial list found:
Medal of Honor PS1
Medal of Honor Underground PS1
007 The World is not Enough PS1
Quake II PS1
Team Buddies PS1
Doom PS1
Final Doom PS1
Hexen PS1
Codename: Tenka PS1
Disruptor PS1
Alien Trilogy PS1
Alien Resurrection PS1
Powerslave PS1
Duke Nukem Total Meltdown PS1
Goldeneye N64
Perfect Dark N64
Turok 2 N64
Turok Rage Wars N64
Turok 3 N64
007 The World is not Enough N64
Foresaken 64 N64
Quake 64 N64
Quake II N64
Rainbow 6 N64
Doom 64 N64
Hexen N64
Duke Nukem 64 N64
South Park N64
Armymen Sarges Heroes N64
Armymen Sarges Heroes II N64
Jet Force Gemini N64
Duke Nukem Zero Hour N64
Daikatana N64
Conkers Bad Fur Day N64

To add an often overlooked PS2 title:
Tribes Aerial Assault - PS2

For best out of that list:
PS1 - Medal of Honor Underground and Team Buddies are the best two. Underground was everything good about the first, but better, while Team Buddies is just a hoot.
N64 - Goldeneye and Turok 2 are probably the best two. I do enjoy the Army Men games occasionally since they are just fun, but they are not better than say Jet Force Gemini or Conker.
PS2 - Tribes AA and Timesplitters. Tribes is a solid game all around, and supports lan as well as split screen. Timesplitters 1 is console exclusive.
Xbox - Halo 1, Ghost Recon, Serious Sam, Unreal Championship, and Timesplitters 2/Future Perfect. Stay far away from Medal of Honor Frontline, it has a horrible multiplayer.

If you don't mind going 3rd person occasionally, the Dreamcast has a fantastic list of local multi-player deathmatch games.

Outtrigger is pretty good, but Fur Fighters and Ooga Booga are fantastic fun with 4 people clustered around the console.

To add to Fastbilly's comments on the Nintendo 64, I used to have a ridiculous amount of fun in 4-player Hexen. Grab a few buddies, build up super weapons, let fly at the fighter as he tries to punch you to death while you're roasting the various enemies the game spawns to kill you while avoiding traps...good times.

Man, I used to play that one with friends for hours, though that was tragically over a decade ago at this point. It was how we broke up the monotony of day-long Soul Calibur tournaments.

How does Unreal Championship hold up today? Or any of these that you recommended?
