Sorry, I know I probably sound stupid but... DRM free music on iTunes , does it mean that I can transfer my bought music to any device I would like (Similar to GOG with games) or it just means that I can run it on any number of Apple devices as long as I log on with the same account I purchased the music with?
How does this exactly work?

You can do anything you like with it, including transcode it, put it on a device, or back it up as many times as you want.
Buy lossless and DRM free.

But will it be tied to my iTunes account? I mean , can I send it to my friend and it will play on his iTunes no problems or will it give him an alert saying "this computer is not authorized to play this song" ?
I know this is illegal , but I want to know if the songs will be tied specifically to your account or not.

They won't be tied.kingmohd84 wrote:But will it be tied to my iTunes account? I mean , can I send it to my friend and it will play on his iTunes no problems or will it give him an alert saying "this computer is not authorized to play this song" ?

DRM free means DRM free.
Re: DRM free music on iTunes
I believe you can do this, but even though the tracks are DRM-free, they do contain a lot of metadata linking them to your account, so should the tracks be found around on the internet they can easily be linked back to you. I guess the short explanation is, you can do with the songs what you want, but if you are wandering into illegal territory, remember than there are easy ways to track those songs back to you unless you go to a great effort to clean them of metadata.kingmohd84 wrote:But will it be tied to my iTunes account? ^Metadata can be easily purged.

I'll purge YOUR metadata, mister!o.pwuaioc wrote:^Metadata can be easily purged.
Oh, wait...
That would be a great threat in a Tron movie.
Re: DRM free music on iTunes
The reason I am asking is because a friend sent me a song like way back in 2004 or 05 , and when I synced my iphone 5 in 2013 it told me that there is a song that I am unathorized to play . Even though it was purchased when the music was not DRM free yet, I thought it would have updated or something by now and all DRM will be... freed.
its not a big deal, I was just thinking how it works.

Re: DRM free music on iTunes
Re download the song from iTunes and it'll be DRM free. And higher quality.
Re: DRM free music on iTunes
I think Apple charges to "upgrade" your songs to the higher-quality, DRM-free versions. 30 cents a song, maybe?
