Yeah, you said the Xbox version runs better. I wouldn't mind trying that version out sometime just to see for myself. I'm not in any kind of hurry to try it though. I'm not as attuned to fine timing details as some. How do the Wii Neo Geo compilations fare? I have the Samurai Shodown disc and I really like it. I don't notice anything wrong with the SamSho games on it. What about the KoF disc? Are these pretty accurate?
Re: Definitive Fighting Game Versions!
I've made some comments regarding the SNK compilations for the Wii, PS2 and PSP like a year or two ago. It's somewhere around the forum buried though.I'm not as attuned to fine timing details as some. How do the Wii Neo Geo compilations fare? I have the Samurai Shodown disc and I really like it. Re: Definitive Fighting Game Versions!
It is SAD what happend with the Orochi collection. The Japanese Orochi Collection didn't have 94 or 98.. it also didn't have load times and it still had arranges too. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. When I was telling somebody about how bad it was he just dismissed it as "You're just hating on something you don't have' OH I HAD IT...I had both...I stuck to the Japanese collection screw having 94 and 98 what's the point if they're half assed emulations.CD AGES wrote:I've made some comments regarding the SNK compilations for the Wii, PS2 and PSP like a year or two ago. You noted that you thought the PS2 SamSho release was the best, but you never indicated why. I am curious to know.CD AGES wrote:I've made some comments regarding the SNK compilations for the Wii, PS2 and PSP like a year or two ago. It's somewhere around the forum buried though.
Re: Definitive Fighting Game Versions!
Hmm... I haven't touched neither version in a while. I own all 3 conversions but I've been on SEGA Hyper mode as of latemarurun wrote:You noted that you thought the PS2 SamSho release was the best, but you never indicated why. I am curious to know.
But I'm gonna play this by memory and explain why I chose the PS2 over Wii.
First off, both console ver. are based off of the JPN PS2 Neo Online Collection which is a major plus (unlike the dreaded PSP version that is running on that awful in house emulation engine from Terminal Reality). I recall many fans breathed a sigh of relief to see that TR used the JPN release and simply added SamSho Tenka.
The biggest issue IMO that both console versions share is even though the games run on that awesome SNK emulator, they are the ONLY Neo Online Collection US conversion where the graphical filter option was disabled. What's worse is that not only was the option removed, Terminal Reality left the Soft filter enabled! This was a quite a bummer. Since the Wii version was still development after the PS2 release, many figured TR would fix the issue by have the option available, or at the very least have the game running with no graphic filter. No Dice! Aside from shorter load times, the Wii version is identical (warts and all) to the PS2 version even with slightly better hardware and a longer development window...
The biggest issue the Wii version suffers from is that it doesn't support the GCN controller (and I think its the only SNK compilation on the system that doesn't support it). Furthermore, at the time, the PS2 version was significantly cheaper in price that the Wii version by 50%! The game debuted with a $15 price tag while the Wii version was released with a $30 to $40 price. For the longest a new opy of the game could be had via Amazon for as low as $10 to $12. The Wii version's price at the time stayed solidly at its original price point. Aside from some load time on the PS2 front (like 3 to 4 seconds on SS4 thru 5 which isn't even that bad) I felt the best bang for your buck came from the PS2 version.
Re: Definitive Fighting Game Versions!
That is a rather reasonable evaluation on your part. I picked up a copy of the Wii version used and I'm very glad it uses the Classic Controller. Wish Metal Slug did... I do prefer the classic controller to the GC controller, but neglecting to include GC controller support is indeed a slight.
Re: Definitive Fighting Game Versions!
I perfer GCN controller compatability over classic controller simply because the former provides you with more options via converters and whatnot. My setup on the Wii is a PS2 controller (or usually a PS2 arcade stick) via converters. I'm also not too keen to wireless controls lol! I avoid them at all cost if I can.
Re: Definitive Fighting Game Versions!
Well, you are probably good enough that every bit of timing makes a difference. I am not so skilled. Still, I imagine the Wii controller latency is pretty low. I'll have to look into this sometime to see. Sometime when I'm not exhausted : )CD AGES wrote:I'm also not too keen to wireless controls lol! I avoid them at all cost if I can.
