Ridge Racer V is awesome, especially if you play with the the neGcon. I've been playing it a lot this past month and just put up some Time Attack videos a couple of days ago.

60FPS looks incredible.
I've been curious about Shox, but maybe you can confirm something...it seems it doesn't have a basic, simple Time Attack mode, is that true?

Indeed. It lacks game modes. In fact there is only one 1 player game mode. It's some kind of Championship mode. But it has multiplayer mode. Looks like 4p.
This game reminds of Sega Rally Revo, even though Revo came out later. Seems Revo stole some of the tracks from Shox.
Shox is a true hidden gem. Dumb name and pretty stupid game shox gimmick, but
What Shox does right is a lot though.
-customizable controls
-16:9 mode
-60fps
-Great tracks
-Great gameplay

As for Ridge Racer V. It can be played in 16:9 with a 'pnach' patch on an actual ps2. If you like that game so much you owe to yourself to play it in 16:9.
Ridge Racer V is a pretty cool game.

Ah, that's a real shame. I really enjoy time attacking, that's where the majority of my gaming time on racing titles comes from, so not having that severely hurts my interest in the game. Bummer. But thanks for the info nonetheless.

Highly recommend the Burnout games. The 3rd is actually my favorite, the only bad thing is the narrator. What a boring guy.

Burnout 2 is my favorite. The last game before it got ridiculous with gimmicky shunts and all that stuff.
B2 still has clean graphics without all of the fireworks of the sequels.

Yes, Burnout 2 is my favorite for the same reason. After that the series' focus changed to encouraging crashing even outside the dedicated Crash mode, I didn't find that fun at all. I spent so much time in Burnout 2 just time attacking Ocean Sprint (R), great course.

You should check out Rumble Racing, it's a pseudo sequel to Nascar Rumble for the ps1. Arcadey game play and colorful graphics.
