The best NBA JAM
Re: The best NBA JAM
I can't believe anyone would choose the genesis or SNES port over the arcade version.
Re: The best NBA JAM
For me it has to do with what I played at the time due to availability and budget. I think I maybe played the arcade cab version of this game 2-3 times in total in an arcade during its original run. By contrast, I played literally hundreds and hundreds of games on the Genesis port (and at least a couple of hundred on the TE cart as well). So while it might not be the "best" from a graphical standpoint (sprites, speed, etc.) it is the version that - to me - feels definitive. When i think of the NBA Jam series, I measure any entry's gameplay, "physics", challenge, fun factor, etc. against the Genesis port. To me the Genesis version is the best version, but I can certainly understand the arguments that the arcade original is the best. That said, to me the arcade version feels too "loose" and the players seem too large. The AI is wonkier, too (and designed to eat quarters). I feel like these parts (and virtually everything else) are done better on the Genesis version.the King wrote:I can't believe anyone would choose the genesis or SNES port over the arcade version.
Certainly there are other games where the console port of an arcade game > arcade original - no?
Does that make sense?

The iOS version is pretty good. Just like the original Wii release. Lots to unlock and play through.

Saw a .50 copy of TE for PC at a thrift shop today, DOS. Anyone interested?

Makes sense and I have probably logged more hours on the Genesis version than the arcade version for many of the same reasons, but to me the ports (just like the ports of Mortal Kombat) always felt like NBA Jam lite to me.

I feel like "Stay Straight" means something different today. Although the "old meaning" combined with the champagne is pretty funny.noiseredux wrote:dsheinem wrote:I don't remember these women in the home portnoiseredux wrote:I'm trying to remember...
