I played MM 9, and it was the same old, same old, at least to me anway. I just don't see it
Mega Man 9 is the perfect realization of the Mega Man classic formula. It's not particularly innovative but does stand out from the rest due to its superior design.

Mega Man 9 is exceptional because everything that it does has purpose. Every boss weapon is useful, and I cannot stress enough how much that adds to the game. The art and music are extremely polished. Levels have consistent (and actually good) themes and mechanics. Sure the controls and basic concept are the same, but the delivery on this one is just simply unmatched.

Mega Man 9 is HARD like.. almost Mega Man 1 hard easily the hardest classic Mega Man game but it's not hard like 4 was hard. 4 was Hard because the bosses were so strong that even their weaknesses didn't do a ton of damage to them.

9 is Hard due to it's level design but not so hard that it's impossible I've only managed to get to Wily 1 and then the redux of the flame pillars get me.

Probably the best example of using stratagy in Mega Man 9 is the flower pedal mini boss in Hornet man's stage. it is weak to it's own stage weapon the Hornet chaser and you do encounter it again in Wily's Castle but when you first encounter it how do you attack it?
You can Mega Buster it you can try to concrete it. I Think tornado man's weapon is effective on it too. it's up to you.

The Dragon in Magma Man's Stage. You can Tornado it which is also Magma Man's weakness but you don't get much Tornado energy BUT the Black Hole Bomb works great against it too and you'll still have Tornado left for Magma man.

The Rock in Jewel Man's stage? HORNET THAT BITCH.

It's those things that make Mega Man 9 ingenious. Though I lean towards 10 mostly because of it's lower difficulty and playable Bass the weapons aren't as creative in 10 but the basic formula that worked in 9 is still there and the level designs are still just as good as 9 if not easier.

Megaman 9 is hard if you play as Protoman, but as Megaman? Could steam roll through Wiley with the E-tanks.

And 90s was not a great decade for comics in the slightest. At least compared to the decade before and after, though I am lost to why comics were mentioned.

I dont really see the problem with innovation. Innovation is the oddest complaint for sequels in the video game community. The point of sequels in video games is to either add more stuff that was in the previous entry, or just switch around the levels for a new experience.

If anything the X series fails at that, because it lost its identity. I barely remember what X7 and X8 are, I remember one of them having Axl and it not being any fun. Though the shitty games in the X series aren't why I rate it lower.

I think Megaman 2,3,9 & Bass are better than the best Megaman X games, which is ultimately why I place the OS over the X series. I tend not to care about bad games in the series, and just judge things on the quality of the good games.

You are a boss, then. Because I found it to be one of the hardest Mega Man games I've ever played.

We all did I remember I spent a month watching Lets plays of the Wii Version before it came out on XBOX Live and it was a struggle A STRUGGLE. Even though I knew the stages through the lets plays and the weaknesses it was just brutal and I STILL have not beaten it.

I beat Mega Man 10 on Normal with Protoman, Mega Man AND Bass quite easily though.

I prefer the X series (although haven't played all in the X series).

But my preference is certainly the Zero series (haven't played ZX yet).

I like the series so much that I progressively decided to challenge myself with them. After playing the first game "normally", I decided to S rank it all and get all Cyber-Elves (there is a particular one that is tremendously hard to reach) in the second one, then with the third game I decided to get 100 pts on each level, and perhaps without thinking clearly, decided to go to the next achievement and do a no damage 100 pts run for the 4th.

Well, I just finished Megaman Zero 4 doing just that and it was HARD. The last stage is really cruel as you have basically to go through 10 bosses. And to think some people can do the same as I did but it in Hard mode, without Charged weapons, Ex skills, Cyber-elves and Chips. Amazing.

To be honest I liked the ending in Zero 3 more, but I think some people really liked the ending in Zero 4. Some day I will try ZX, but now I need a break from this kind of challenge.

Ivo.

ZX isn't much different from Zero.

Zero strays a bit from the Mega Man Formula. Not too much but not enough to really consider it in line with X and Classic.

Honestly, I could go either way, it really depends on the mood i'm in. I either play Mega Man 6 or Mega Man X2.

(I hope MMX3 drops in price someday...)

I only played X and X2, but I think that is true, which is perhaps why I like it more. I haven't played the X games where you get to play Zero though, presumably those have similar gameplay?

I like getting abilities from the bosses and that is integral to all the games (even Zero series), but I don't like too much that they dominate the gameplay to the point that you should either stick to one overpowered one or be changing weapons around all the time (that was mostly the case in X at least, and it is even more so the case in the classic games I played). In Zero in the vast majority of circumstances you are using the saber or the buster.

I am aware one can go through even the Classic games using only the buster (and Rush, I guess), but that is quite a handycap. Between Classic and X I prefer X without a doubt.
