Oh wow that's pretty ironic given how the prequels were done...fastbilly1 wrote: It made me realize something in that both A New Hope and Battlestar Galactica have a very similar message. They are both about how technology is not always needed and how over reliance on it can be a very bad thing. Which is funny since they were both technical marvels...

I've got more that are just as bad.fastbilly1 wrote: Yes, Firecrackers in models.
Almost positive you have more than one projector. If I'm correct, then you probably watch STAR WAR often on a big screen.
It's gorgeous, but the characters carry the movie more than any special effect. The characters are all so interesting that we don't even ask why cape's are so in fashion in a long, long time ago.

The capes are not the problem, look at the Storm Troopers Shoulderpads from ANH to ROTJ - they grow by alot.
I do have multiple projectors, but we havent watched any StarWars films on them passed A New Hope once. That is something I will remedy soon though.

Come on now guys, there's a reason why ILM is still the effects house. It's dated, sure, but you can't tell me those effects weren't incredibly ambitious in 1977

The speeder race in Endor still looks great.

But it doesn't matter how it's done, as long as the end result on the big screen/T.V. screen looks good. And it does.Luke wrote:Throwing paper cut outs in front of a blue screen and putting fire crackers in models were "marvels"?fastbilly1 wrote: Which is funny since they were both technical marvels...

Pretty WTF-ish horror anthology.

So-so but still enjoyable mid-'80s straight-to-video horror film.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Finally watched this:

...so if anything, I found myself rooting for the "freaks" and having no problem with what they did. Sure, some of the shots where they are spying through stairs and under wagons get creepy, and I will never forget the way Jerry Austin casually pulled out his knife while Johnny Eck produced that pistol...chilling how calm and easy it was. But the truth is, I sympathized with them and found nothing monstrous about their behavior at all. They look out for their own, and I respect it, even if they were more extreme than Hans wanted.
Of course, I would gladly have drunk from the offered cup. I've known enough people that qualified as "freaks" over the years to be happy to be counted among them.

Just finished Primer.
What a fantastic mindfuck. I will probably watch it again tomorrow when I get home from work.

That is such a great movie, and it still feels edgy today. I am not surprised that you were rooting for the freaks, however. I think that was clearly the director's intention. The beautiful humans are the real monsters in this movie, and the freaks react to them the way "normal" humans <justifiably> react to monsters in other movies. (That said, the "gibble gobble! gibble gobble! one of us! one of us!" scene and the final act are both still shocking.)Ack wrote:
