The Game Gear Buyers Guide

The Game Gear Buyers Guide

Collecting for the Sega Game Gear is a great thing. Even though the system did not do well up against the Nintendo Gameboy, it still has a firm place in handheld history.

The competition for Game Gear on Ebay is fierce. On almost every auction you will find yourself in a bidding battle to the death. I have developed a list of things to watch for when buying Game Gear items on Ebay or in person.

1) Look at the games in the listing & determine the price cap that you are willing to pay. Most auctions for the GG come in the form of a "lot" (I know this because I now have 20 copies of Sonic 2).

2) Watch For The Doublers Many people that sell boxed or sealed GG games will double the price of what the game is really worth. People see the title of the listing state "Complete" or "Sealed" and they immediately think to bid, without researching.

3) Always check http://www.rarityguide.com/gamegear_view.php or get in contact with me. I check Racketboy multiple times per day and I will always get back to you. Rarityguide.com is the best judge of what things are worth. I have made several contributions to the Game Gear list they have.

Rules For Buying Systems

Plain Gray System= $20-$25
Blue System= $35-$45
Majesco= $60-$75

[*]Before bidding on a system you should get in contact with the seller and get pictures of the system running. This will give you and idea of the condition of the screen and the capacitors. If the screen has lines running through it or is very faded then you will know the system is not in the best condition. In this case you should only pay the lowest price for the system.

Please feel free to contact me via PM or reply to this thread. It is easy to get duped when dealing with the GG, so you have to be very careful.

I hope You have found this helpful!!

Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping! :)

Why is this gonna be a thread and not a front page article?

I was hoping that this thread would become a sticky in this forum

No offense or anything, but I think Rarityguide is an absolutely terrible resource. I can't vouch for much in regards to how accurate it is for Game Gear, but its SNES section was absolutely laughable. It's not a site I'd consider in any way to be reliable.

I agree with you on the SNES. Although, I have worked in collaboration with them on the GG guide though and I can vouch to say that it is very accurate.

I think we all thought you were going to put together a "Rarest and Most Valuable Game Gear Games" article for the main site...

Oh, well I can definitely do that also! I'll start working on it tomorrow. It might take me a bit though.
