Re: Games Acquired 2013
I'm a bit sad to say this is my last "big" month. With a babby on the way and my job coming to an end I need to drastically cut back on the "collecting" part of this hobby. I'm sure some good will come out of all of this though. Like, I'll actually have time to play the video games I've been purchasing.
Re: Games Acquired 2013
January:
Beach Spikers (Gamecube)
Mario Golf Toadstool Tour (Gamecube)
NEWEST:
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (Gamecube)
Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls (GBA)

To all of you wondering, "geez E.E, have some RPGs with your FPS/Stealth titles" or, "have some GBA with your Gamecube", I can assure you that finding GBA stuff is just as top a priority now. The guy I got this from had FF4Advance, FF5Advance & FF6Advance available but the prices on those got too high. So why not go back to the one I already have on the NES? I'm sure the FF Player's Guide from Nintendo Power got many a non-RPG fan hooked on this game in 1990. Plus, so far it also seems to address a lot of the shortcomings the original game had (such as wasting attacks assigned to dead enemies).
As for the next game in the Splinter Cell series, I'm ready for this. I noticed this also connects through to the GBA and provides the special overhead map and other exclusive weapons/features as the first game did. Very nice.

Re: Games Acquired 2013
At this point I don't plan to do any game purchasing tomorrow and I don't expect anything to come in the mail, so I am going to go ahead and post my January list (I just do this once a month...)
Like last year, January was a pretty insane month for me in terms of both acquiring and sending out stuff.
I'm also going to keep track of the total amount I spend over the year, just so that I can try to get a better sense of when I may have gone a bit overboard. That said, I am quite proud of the relatively small total expenditure this month, given the amount and the quality of games that came in

Re: Games Acquired 2013
How? I generally pay cash, purchase from shady grey market dealers, and qickly incorporate games into my collection. If I do not update this thread regularly, I will very quickly lose track of my new additions.dsheinem wrote:(I just do this once a month...)
Regardless, you killed it this month. I am still hunting down: Stretch Panic (PS2), Savage Skies (PS2), Octomania (Wii), Psychic Force (DC), Floigan Brothers (DC), and Pinball Tycoon (GBA), and I am quite jealous that you are adding them to your collection. (Have you been able to spend any time with them? How are they?)
Also...Impossible Mission (7800).
Re: Games Acquired 2013
I just keep a running text file for what I've picked up/sent out and a spreadsheet for incoming/outcoming monies. I make it a point to stay up on it at least once a week, though.prfsnl_gmr wrote:How? I have not spent time with any of those - I am thinking of setting aside a few weeks sometime soon to play PS2 games for a while and really dig into them...sort of like I've done for the Wii this month. Of the games I picked up in January, I have spent a fair amount of time with about 1/3 of them and and beaten and/or sunk quality time into about 10% or so.prfsnl_gmr wrote:Regardless, you killed it this month. That total represents quite a bit in sales as well. Actual numbers were probably more like $500 worth of stuff sold (basically profit from that big lot I bought back in December) and about $600 spent (for a total of around $100 spent). I also picked up maybe a quarter of these through straight trades as well.

It's still very good work. I have unloaded a few large lots before, and I suspect you put nearly $500 worth of effort into it.dsheinem wrote:That total represents quite a bit in sales as well. I am using this thread to budget too...After I pay for my charity auction purchases, I will limit myself to $100 this month. I am curious to see how close I can get to 100 games for $100, but my wife and I have a trip to Asheville, NC planned for the end of the month. There is (at least in my opinion) a legendary game store there; so, I may just save my budget for the trip.

These both sound awesome!dsheinem wrote: Akira Psycho Pinball

Since I am easing my way back into collecting, I think I'll join in on this.
January
Contra
Karate Kid
Mega Man 4
Ninja Gaiden
Picked these up at a new retro game store that opened up about 2 blocks away from me. Traded in a bunch of Genesis games that weren't really worth shipping, so I paid nothing for this lot.
I'm trying to approach collecting with a bit more structure this time, not only so that I avoid over-spending, but so that I can at least play most of the games I pick up. So, I'm going for loose NTSC-U NES carts. I've been trying to think of a cool subset to go for, just to give me an attainable goal.

Re: Games Acquired 2013
Sure I'll join in this. Kinda going off of memory for January, but I didn't pick up a ton of stuff this month anyway. I'll try and be more detailed in the following months.
January
NES
Blades of Steel
Journey to Silius
Nintendo World Cup Soccer
Sega CD
Sonic CD (disc only)
Mad Dog McCree (disc only)
Popful Mail
Hardware
Coleco Telstar
Sega CD model 1
Sega CD model 2
TOTAL SPENT: approximately $160ish
I'm trying to avoid going too crazy with buying until a few things fall into place a little better. Hard to resist the occasional great deal though...
