Which Flavor of Mega Man do you prefer? Original or X?

Mega Man X easily wins for me. (Who would've guessed that one?)

I enjoy the original series more as the games progress and Mega Man gets more abilities (sliding, charging, Rush power ups, etc.) To me, the more options you have in your arsenal the better and more interesting it is. (Side note...screw 9 and 10 for reneging on the progress of the series in name of being "retro.)

The sheer amount of ways you can take on any X game is awesomely staggering and keeps the replays fresh. With/without armor, e-tanks, heart tanks, boss order...not to mention the later games that have Zero as a playable character with his own unique upgrades. I think the X series is head and shoulders above the MM series.

So why didn't any of the other games in the X series ever do that thing in the first one where beating certain stages in certain order would change other stages? Like how beating Chill Penguin's stage first would freeze over Flame Mammoth's stage.

I wish the Robot Master weapons in X games were actually useful.

I think the weapons in X are great. The boomerang grabs items, the roll and chameleon provide shielding, the tornado and flame are useful to kill large enemies, and I heavily use both to fight the Mandrill midboss, and the heat seekers are great.

Not to mention X2, where powering up the abilities even allows you to do a fire-dash and hookshot to reach hidden platforms.

Compare these to MM, where the weapons are almost primarily for bosses, and MM2, where you use one weapon for the entire game.

Granted, the 4 games I reference are the ones I am most familiar with, so maybe MM3 has way cooler weapons than X3. I didn't care for x3 much, and still need to try the rest of the NES series.

I always lean towards the original series. I like the character designs and overall "vibe" a lot more. I like how Mega Man has a robot dog, I like Proto Man's cool shades & cape, I like that you can get a robot bird to help you out, I like how the characters names are all cheesy music puns... it's great!

But when it comes to actually playing the games, the X series wins. The gameplay is just so much more intense in the X games. I don't know how to really describe it, but while the original Mega Man games are tough, the X games are intense.

With people talking about the story in the games, I'm just thinking the awful voice-acting in Mega Man 8...
Yeah, don't play Mega Man for the story. Even Mega Man X: Command Mission is pretty awful on that front.

I do dream of someday being able to play Super Adventure Rockman though.

In X4 they are useless esp if you did the Ultimate Armor Code aside from the Flame weapon required to get a Heart tank and the Spider webs to reach a particular capsule in Storm Owl's Stage. But In X1 you needed the weapons to get particular Items Actually in X2 you did as well not sure about X3 but X1 and X2 the Weapons aided in game play.

In the Classic Series It depended on the game. 1 and 2 the Weapons were useful in 3 not so much other than Robot Master Weakness. In 4 EVERYTHING was useless as the bosses were over powered. In Mega Man 5 the Buster ruled all. In 6 just for Robot Master Weakness.

7 and 8 the X system of Needing weapons to reach areas or get certain items came back into play and in 9 and 10 Different Weapons were useful in different situations like 1 and 2.

The Storm Tornado is Mega Man X's Metal Blade. Probably the best Weapon in the entire X series.

I have completed Mega Man 2 more than any other game, and simply writing this post makes me want to play through it again. That game is sublime.

Accordingly, I must say that I prefer the original blue bomber.

Always kind of disappointed me that we never actually saw Wily in the Mega Man X series. Sigma is constantly dropping hints that he has either met Wily or somehow knows about him, unless that's all info he acquired from picking up the virus that was originally in Zero's system. Throughout the series Sigma always seems to know more about Zero than anyone, including X. This changes in MMX6 though, as Isoc knows everything about Zero, leading me to believe that Isoc perhaps WAS Wily in a robot body. Still, with Inafune no longer on board after MMX5, I don't even know if MMX6 can even be considered canon. This cut scene just screams Dr. Wily

Also, I think Wily definitely created Zero before X. Or perhaps they were created at the same time? That cut scene from Power Fighters makes it seem like he created Zero with no knowledge of X whatsoever.

I would love to see a Mega Man/Mega Man X crossover game done Sonic Generations style with "old" classic Mega Man stages and "new" Mega Man X style stages that would bridge the story of the two series. I would very much love to know how X and Zero got buried and why, according to Inafune, Zero never destroyed Mega Man when he clearly was powerful enough to do so. Was X activated back in the classic Mega Man timeline to stop Zero? That can't be right, because X as he was at the beginning of the first MMX game would have been destroyed by Zero easily. X was still very much a combat newbie at that point

Dr Wily shows up in some of Zero's Cut Scenes in X4
