dreamcast Boot disk. Is it harmful?
Well, I 've had my Dreamcast for about 8 years now but never imported anything. I recently got back into it and bought a copy of Guilty Gear X. Because of this, I was wondering if I should get a boot disc to play it. I know that you have to open the drive while the system is on and thought this may be harmful. Is it? Should I just find a rip and burn it instead.

Shouldn't matter, but if it was me, I'd get a rip of the game and play that.
Keep the original on the shelf unless there's a problem with the rip.

Thanks. I've never burned any games for DC. This is the first import I've gotten in 8 years of having my DC. Anyways, where would I go to get rips? Sorry if I'm not allowed to ask that.

Underground Gamer is what I recommend. You may need an invite though...sonikjesus wrote:Thanks. I've never burned any games for DC. This is the first import I've gotten in 8 years of having my DC. Anyways, where would I go to get rips? Sorry if I'm not allowed to ask that.

Thanks. I don't want to ask too much but I would really like some more help on my setup thread. My copy of xm vs sf is coming in soon and I really want to hook up my Saturn to my monitor. Any help would be appreciated.
Re: dreamcast Boot disk. Is it harmful?
No it's not harmful. It's not like you swap the disc when it's still spinning. Anyway, i open the drive while the system is on all the time on the dreamcast if I want to change games, it's safesonikjesus wrote:Well, I 've had my Dreamcast for about 8 years now but never imported anything. Also, do burned games wear the DC and Saturn out anymore than regular ones? Even slightly?
Re: dreamcast Boot disk. Is it harmful?
dc rips are perfectly fine to run in your console. I second what racket said about getting a rip in the first place. It will save you switching discs while the console is running, although I have run utopia before and it's not a huge deal to do something like that.

Boot disks are a thing of the past unless you are bent on playing your original GD-ROM.
