Sega CD 2 Power

Post by SpaceBooger »

I recently got a genesis model 2 and sega cd model 2 from ebay with the cd ac adaptor. I then ordered the genny ac and video cable.
The genny works great, but the CD does not power on. I turn the power for the genny on with no cartridge and nothing happens.
I currently have the genesis av and vid cables in the metal bracket on the bottom and the power for the CD... am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions?

Is it definitely slotted into the Sega CD correctly? It's quite a firm fit and takes a bit of pressure to get it to fit correctly at first.

I 'think' that the mega drive power adaptor works on the mega CD as well. (to be honest i've never checked and I just plug whichever one I have to hand in to each plug and i've never had any problems) So try the mega cd power adaptor on the mega drive and see if the mega drive works. If it doesn't then you have a dead power adaptor.

Yeah its in there snug.
I even cleaned the connection - they were black now nice and copper.
I am worried that it may be the power supply. The Model 2 Sega CD takes a Model 1 AC Adapter, since I have Model 2 Genesis I can not switch adapters.
I kinda don't want to buy a power supply because it that is not it I wasted $10 or so.
Any other ideas?

I am the only one of my friends around that still plays classic games, well on the original systems that is. During college all of my friends (and I) sold every system except for the current ones for beer money. I am the only one who is trying to collect them again.

I also agree that it may be an ac problem too... I have been searching the house for same volt and size power adapters with no luck.

Good luck! I remember losing an adaptor for my Mega Drive, so tried one of those all in one adaptor things and couldn't get any of them to work. It sucks.

You do have both ac adapters plugged in, right? Because just to play the sega cd you need the genesis power as well. If yes, then I'm sorry to say it's either the ac adapter or the sega cd. They are a bit tempermental, but repairable most of the time. Check the tech help forums on digital press, I've found alot of answers there.

I got them both plugged in. I wish the Sega CD had a power light it would make this a lot easier to diagnose.
I will go to digital press and check it out, thanks.

Went to digit press and found out that it was a blown fuse. This morning I removed the old fuse and soldering in a new one and the system powers up perfectly!

Thanks for the suggestion to try digit press - it saved me buying a new power supply.

Awesome! Does your internal memeory work? I had to replace the battery on mine, which is tack welded. So you have to warm up the weld and pry it off carefully so you dont pull the terminal off the circut board. They i had to use electrical tape to get a strong contact. Works great now. I finally picked up the memory cad for a decent price, but until you find one you may need to do some surgery again. Also digital press has some help in their forums on this as well!!
