Restore your yellow console to white or gray

Post by jinxmitchell »

This isn't my guide, but I've done it and it works. I'll post some before and after pics later, but it hasn't been very sunny lately so I'm not done with mine yet.

This method doesn't need sandpaper or paint. It genuinely removes the yellowing from the plastic, and is safe for painted on labels and stickers (unless they are paper stickers. I can't vouch for those).

Check the wiki here: http://retr0bright.wikispaces.com/

Again, will post final results once the weather clears up in my area (the method needs UV light and the bulb I bought didn't do a very good job).

Edit: Weather still sucks and looks like it will for a while. Will update as soon as I get some decent sunlight, and then I'll post what I learned.

After (So far):

It's finally sunny around here and I've had a chance to do some more restoring. I'll do a write up after a few more sessions, but I want to make sure I have everything down precisely.

Maybe add it to one of the existing threads?

Ah, I didn't check the OT forum. I just assumed it would be here if it existed.

O.Pwuiac got me before the "we already have a thread for that" post.

But go ahead guy, I'd love to see how your work turns out!

One thing you might want to consider is changing your image size - they're currently set to 3648px × 2736px!

THIS, the linked pics really hog up on a slow server or if one is on a cell phone. Hiding the huge linked pics behind a Spoiler won't help either, they still download even if not opened. Best to keep pictures down to 725 wide.

That said, looking forward to your results!

Shrunk them down. Let me know if they still take too long to load.

Still huge. They get automatically resized in a post unless a direct attachment, no point in linking multiple large slow loading pics.

Maybe include a paragraph detailing the steps you took such as soak time? You can even go into detail on the disassembly and things to be careful of such as how the buttons are reinstalled. This will help if one has never worked on a SNES. Maybe a pic and sales link of the Retrobright that you personally used?
