advice on dreamcast imports

Post by mas »

I really want to just focus on the sega dreamcast this year. I just bought a vga adaoter and street fighter and soul calibur never looked so good. I'm buying the agetec dreamcast arcade stick on Fri for 50.00 complete and I just got ikaruga with the dc x import player.
Can anyone give me any advice on what shooters or fighters i need to play or buy? I tend on getting guilty gear and capcom vs snk 2 and kof series 2000-2002. Any other shooters or fighters I should get and any other place besides ebay? Ebay ask too much money for some games.

You could try Amazon also. Some games are cheaper than Ebay, some aren't. It's pretty hit or miss.

There aren't too many must have shooters for the DC that aren't available as US releases, and they're a bit pricey. Just in case you don't have them, I'd look for US copies of Gigawing 1 and 2, Gunbird 2, and Mars Matrix.

For imports, there's Zero Gunner 2, Boarder Down, Under Defeat, Trigger Heart Excelica, Shikigami no Shiro II, Trizeal, and the Milestone games (Karous, Radirgy, Chaos Field). Gun Spike isn't exactly a shmup, but the import copy can be less expansive the US release: Cannon Spike.

Again for fighters, not many that weren't released in the US, but you would probably pay less for Moero Justice Gakuen than you would for Project Justice. There's also Super Street Fighter II X, but it's also pretty pricey. Oh, and Vampire Chronicle.

I was assuming that you were interested in 2D fighters, but if you wanted 3D fighters also, then you could look into Fighting Vipers 2, Godzilla Generations, Gundam Federation vs Zeon DX (Kidou Senshi Gundam Renpou vs Zeon DX) and Frame Gride.

I own giga wing 1 and 2, mars matrix, gunbird 2, mostly all the us fighters except for powerstone 2. I am going to look around amazon for the imports but how much should i spend? I see games like last hope is 60.00 and up. Hell I see border down goes up to 100+ dollars. I almost want to burn these games and play them like that instead of buying original games. Anyone also know how the weeding imports are?

Weeding imports?

Anyway, like I said before, most of the better import-only shmups are more expensive. I'm pretty sure Last Hope is quite a bit less on the NG Dev website, but the price is in euros anyway, so you could try waiting around for a better exchange rate, also.

Border Down is generally around $85 and up, even in Japan. Just like anything else, you can get good deals on these shmups, but in general you'd be looking at $50+ for the Milestone shooters, $40-60 for Zero Gunner, Under Defeat, Trigger Heart, Shikigami and Trizeal, and maybe $25-30 for Gun Spike.

^But keep in mind those are good forum or auction prices. Don't expect to go to an import website or ebay/amazon buy now and get them for that.

Da's for true. I have this problem where I consider BIN prices to be generally unreasonable.

Well, they are, but they are for 2 types of people:

Patient sellers
Impatient buyers

And both of ^those exist heavily in this hobby, so they need to be considered when determining market.

I was gonna comment on these prices, but mjmjr pretty much nailed it on what I was gonna say.

@mas: if you just wanna own these games but at a good price, then you need to be patient and wait for a good deal to pop up. In the meantime, enjoy what you have put some hours on those fine Dreamcast games you mentioned having already. Good things come to those who wait.

Thanks. I ment to say what wrestling imports are good not weeding imports. But yeah im going to take my time on the shmups. I think I should start with kof series and guilty gear and cvs2 first.
