im having some kind of electrical problem, where there is some type of electical interference static and lines going through my electric outlets when i turn my modded xbox on. i can even see it in my tv downstairs when i turn my xbox on upstairs.
anyways, i have a 400GB hard drive, can i just buy another xbox and install this hardrive without having to mod the xbox? (As is is the mod in the hard drive itself)
or do i still have to mod the actual xbox (which i dont know how to do right now) in order for the xbox to read this hardrive with my games on it.
im really hoping to just do a hard drive swap and throw out the crappy xbox.
unless there is a easy solution to my electrical interference problem.

Re: I need help with my modded XBOX
Might be a problem. When I was going to upgrade my xbox from 500GB to 750GB my plan was to put the old hard drive into a different xbox, Well when I tried that I found out that the way the drive is formatted makes it unique to that system and I couldn't do it
. That almost put me off of modded systems due to the amount of TV Shows/Games that were lost because of it! If you can move your files through FTP to your computer and transfer them to the new hard drive.

Unless something new has come up, I had this problem several years ago maybe my problem is ancient history now.

wow that sucks, i was even thinking of buying a modded xbox online (so i dont have to do it myself, those gamesharks are expensive anyways) and just swapping the hard drives.NeoRage wrote:Might be a problem. at least i have all my games saved on dvd, im not sure how to connect the xbox to the pc, and not sure if i can to do so, i probably going to need to just either get this electrical problem fixed.
mabye i can swap some of the electrical components. i disconnected the video cables and i still see those interference lines on my tv so its definitely electrical.

Re: I need help with my modded XBOX
Even if you do get it fixed the best way to transfer things to the xbox is through the PC. If you get a crossover cable you can easily FTP games, video, audio and whatever else you want on your system, It's saved me a LOT of DVD's!!
If you're new to xbox mods you should check out the newest sky update of MUGEN, It has 1000 characters! (If you like fighting games that is
). Also if you like Morrowind some of the mods you can use on the xbox really add life to the game and make it look a lot better.

Re: I need help with my modded XBOX
ill look into that crossover cable, thanks. but i do like to store the games on DVD's as backups, it saves alot of time if your hard drive ever crashed, it takes alot of freaking time to download 200-300 games, know what i mean? this way also if i get a modded 360 i have them on dvd as well, i love backing up my stuff, and i have my 400GB hard drive full, if that crashed then.....know what i mean? 200 dvd's are about $50 bucks, so totally worth it to me.
if anyone else has any answers about switching the hard drive to another modded xbox or how to fix this electrical problem please let me know thanks,
ill go download that mugen, looks like fun! ive played some older ones and they are great.

Re: I need help with my modded XBOX
You can't transfer any hard drive into an unmodded xbox unless you do the hotswap trick. That involves a lot of technical knowledge. A PC you can take the case off of, a spare IDE cable and Molex power connector and the ability to boot from a floppy disk. That's just to start with. Even then I'm not sure if you can do it on an unmodded xbox.
It's to do with the kernel image at boot time checking that the hard drive is locked with the motherboards specific key. Each key is unique to each xbox so simply swapping is not possible on any xbox, unless it is hard modded and boots a modded kernel at boot anyway and preempts this entire process anyway.

Re: I need help with my modded XBOX
Try and get a nice surge protector. Sometimes they have better tolerance for signal interference.
Or a cheaper option would be to try a different IC cable. They're standard and any with the same figure eight connector will work. It could be the cable at fault?
If it's not that then replacing the PSU might help. Just try and get a xbox on ebay sold as spares/parts that has a problem with something other than PSU.

Re: I need help with my modded XBOX
its not the cable, as i did have another one on hand,
ill look into the PSU thing, if you think that would fix it that it would be worth a try, ill look for a xbox collection in my local craigslist so i can sell the games and get the box for free. i just want to clear up this static on my modded box.
thanks for your input.
