It was closer to strong-arming than nickel and diming. But yeah, I'm glad that day is done.

Weird thing is, not at one point did I want to grab a sidearm. I figured "They can take my options, leave 'em, or stuff might go down" and although I was worried, the thought of arming myself never came to mind.
Good for you to stand your ground. Did you get the valve handle fixed? Maybe post a pic, someone here might come up with a solution. I'm thinking drilling a countersunk hole in each end, inserting a steel rod along with JB Weld epoxy. That is if the handle is thick enough to accommodate the rod hidden inside.

When I had a problem with my heater, the repair guy wanted fifty bucks just to visit. I could only guess what they would charge for the repair, when he hit me with this. Once he arrived, he stated that a carbon monoxide test is required first. IF THE TEST FAILS HE WOULD HAVE TO DISABLE THE HEATER BY CUTTING THE GAS LINES! Showed him the door and refused to pay the fifty bucks for trying to sabotage my heater. I then went to Appliance Parts Center, picked up a new gas valve for the fifty and changed it myself.

I'll probably never use it - thing takes 6 C batteries - but it's the thought that counts right?
Nice! Since the controllers are still wired and the base is on the table anyways, maybe a nine volt DC power brick? The amps should not have to be too high since its just electronics and no motor.

I'll post pics later today. Thanks for the suggestions.

And it was $75 just for a visit for me. But $85 total for what the technician did? A bargain. He fixed/upgraded the unit, saved me money, and gave me HVAC/AC 101.

Smile: Smoked cigars and played poker last night with friends.

Frown: My game room still smells a bit smokey, which shouldn't come as a surprise.

Smile: I'm no where near an "avid smoker" so the smell should go away *knocks on wood* soon.

Win, win win!

Laughy faces!

SMILE: I have some takers. Poker night starts before night:

I have two cases of light beer, two cases of craft beer, and enough whisky that no one will have to leave the house after all is said and done.

:) : Tomorrow is Friday and I only have to work for a couple of hours. I'm going to get a couple of things done and then try to knock of another chapter or two of Uncharted (and probably make a post for the "last movie you've seen" thread).

:( : Some videos for work that I spent a good six months trying to coax from related parties so that I could edit and put them on Youtube (per the boss mans request) were snatched from me to be sent off to an attorney (only God knows what for.) Who knows how long it'll take to get those back or to get another copy :x

:) : At least I've been given more work to do lately. People at work have finally started to realize that their time is better spent sending me the work they need for things like flyers and brochures, instead of them sitting down and typing out a "oh look at my new mastery of Microsoft Word skills" project themselves.

:? : I haven't been paid for last month yet, and that irks me.

Hurry up, ya bastards. I need money so I can go out and buy whatever movie it is noise wants me to watch. I've gots a review to write, damn it.

Best of luck to Michi on his paper chasing.

Smile: Snow!

Kind of, but Snow!

Wife and I are at home, ready to cuddle.

Smile!!!!! Finally PayPal sent me the deposits for account verification.

Frown: Didn't fair to well last night on a poker night, but buy-ins kept me in the black...I think. I haven't added in the cost of the decks of cards we went through, but I should still be in the black.

Thanks, Luke. Your good wishes must have been good karma. I got a phone call earlier telling me they'd finally found someone to sign off on my money. Apparently I wasn't the only one waiting, either. Seems they were having trouble finding someone with the authority so sign off on money in general this week...for some reason. I don't know about these people sometimes.

Anyway though..... money!

I think I'm now prepared for anything noise can throw at me
