I like Lightning's attire in the original FFXIII. In fact, I have no problem with most of the character's attire. But then again, I kinda like the over the top style in a lot of RPGs. Good for cosplay.

Lightning is so bad-ass. Especially in XIII-2. The first Lightning battle in that game is a total "oh man this game is gonna be so awesome" way to start it.

The character designs from VII on are horrendous.

I'm not sure how you can call the character designs in VII horrendous. Vincent is the only one who gave a hint to the "buckles and zippers" fad Square would get in to. The rest of the major characters are all dressed pretty regularly.

VII's designs are very 90s looking with the spiky hair and whatnot, but it looks fine.

Personally, I don't think Nomura went crazy until FFX. His Parasite Eve designs are pretty reserved in comparison too.
