THQ is dead
Re: THQ is dead
Agreed. Well ... I still have enough goodwill from 1 that I'd buy a Darksiders 3 were it to appear. I guess we'll see.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

This is just one addition (and a big one) to many previously healthy companies either folding, or changing their business plans recently. Black Isle Studios, Atari, Midway, and Acclaim have all folded recently. Last I read Sega is considering releasing games digitally only to reduce costs. And plenty of companies have stated budget constraints and even gone as far as pointing the finger at gamers because they aren't supporting them enough and are buying used. Gaming magazines barely exist anymore when only a few years back you could go to Barnes & Noble and choose from 20 different gaming publications. I'm even seeing chains like GameStop, Game Crazy, and Play-N-Trade shutting down many locations. And then there's the Wii U. Normally a new system is a huge deal for Nintendo, this time not so much. It's just doing good enough, which just seems like another indicator for me.dsheinem wrote:THQ deep-sixing their own company by pouring a shit ton into the uDraw and taking on too many other projects in development at the same time is not a sign that there's an impending crash. The industry is always changing, but anything resembling the infamous crash of the late VCS era is nowhere in sight.BurningDoom wrote:Game developers and companies are dropping left and right. I hate to say it, but I think we're heading for a 2nd crash if something doesn't change.
Maybe gaming isn't gonna go away completely, granted, but there's a definitely a problem in the industry right now. And if things continue this way, the gaming industry is gonna be a shell of it's former self. I don't like watching it happen, either.

You mean the same company that had to exit the hardware business because they were hemorrhaging money? I wouldn't hold them up as paragons of financial success that suddenly have fallen on hard times.Last I read Sega is considering releasing games digitally only to reduce costs.
Remind me again how buying used funds video games. And plenty of companies have stated budget constraints and even gone as far as pointing the finger at gamers because they aren't supporting them enough and are buying used.
There's this newfangled thing called the internet which has made magazines a dated technology, especially for interest mags which cater to people who live and breath the internet.Gaming magazines barely exist anymore when only a few years back you could go to Barnes & Noble and choose from 20 different gaming publications.
You realize that GameStop purchased a ton of smaller chains, making them compete with themselves in many markets. That has nothing to do with the health of the video game industry. Also, there's this thing called Amazon where you can purchase games new and used without getting hassled to buy an Edge card or whatever the devil they call it these days.I'm even seeing chains like GameStop, Game Crazy, and Play-N-Trade shutting down many locations.
I don't recall the Gamecube being a huge deal. It was really just the Wii because it turned out to be such a massive hit with a new demographic that contributed to massive inventory shortages. And then there's the Wii U. Normally a new system is a huge deal for Nintendo, this time not so much. It's just doing good enough, which just seems like another indicator for me.
The biggest thing I've seen is many studios have shuttered due to the high cost of AAA 3D development. Fortunately, many other studios have realized this and have also realized that there is a large consumer base for people who don't need photorealistic graphics.Maybe gaming isn't gonna go away completely, granted, but there's a definitely a problem in the industry right now. Also, I'm vaguely amused at your user name after reading your post.

There have been a shit ton of threads on this. For you to keep blatantly denying it without even acknowledging the evidence provided you is nothing short of shitty trollery.MrPopo wrote:Remind me again how buying used funds video games. And plenty of companies have stated budget constraints and even gone as far as pointing the finger at gamers because they aren't supporting them enough and are buying used.

Re: THQ is dead
I could give you a much larger list of defunct 3rd-party companies that went under this or last-generation pretty easily, but I thought I got my point across enough.
I didn't even point out the fact that video game sales have been on a consistently downhill slide for months on end, now. (not counting the holiday spike, of course)
In the face of all these different things happening at once, and you guys truly don't think the gaming industry is having any issues? There's an excuse and a reason for every problem, huh? Sound like denial to me.

Without getting into the debate again, some of those theories are far from proof or definitive evidence. Just opinions from one side of the argument.o.pwuaioc wrote:There have been a shit ton of threads on this. I didn't say proof nor definitive evidence. But to just pretend that there are no reasons is disingenuous. Not that I ever expect MrPopo to be genuinely concerned with anything other than his own opinions.Jmustang1968 wrote:Without getting into the debate again, some of those theories are far from proof or definitive evidence. I had a friend use some of the later build-a-wrestler features in these games to make Satan and Jesus. Satan was as big as he could make a fighter and bright red. Jesus was as scrawny as you could make a fighter. Satan could beat anybody, except for Jesus. And Jesus beat everyone.AznKhmerBoi wrote:Its a shame because they made teh best wrestling games everrrr!
