They have been completely dissolved. Their games have been auctioned off, so Sega now owns Company of Heroes, Saints Row and Metro belong to Koch Media, Homefront belongs to Crytek, and South Park: The Stick of Truth belongs to Ubisoft.
This is a sad day, as anyone who played their licensed games as a kid knows. At least their top franchises will continue on.

THQ is dead

If you liked wrestling games. I'm having a hard time thinking of one great game they published in the early days (pre-64). Seems they brought over G-Darius to NA...BoringSupreez wrote:This is a sad day, as anyone who played their licensed games as a kid knows. At least their top franchises will continue on.
That's not to say that THQ then is what THQ now is, or just was.
Re: THQ is dead
Darksiders fate is still unknown, while i loved the first 1 and was super excited for the 2nd, Darksiders 2 was a disappointment to me, but i wouldnt be against a 3rd one coming out.

Re: THQ is dead
The problem with the Darksiders series is that it has no soul. It just copies and pastes gameplay from other popular franchises. It's a lot like Castlevania Lords of Shadow. There's not a single original element to those games beyond Joe Madureira's art styleHazerd wrote:Darksiders fate is still unknown, while i loved the first 1 and was super excited for the 2nd, Darksiders 2 was a disappointment to me, but i wouldnt be against a 3rd one coming out.
They've done a lot of WWE Smackdown games, which were kind of cool back on the original Playstation, but the series got gradually less and less inspired with every yearly installment. They've done little to really evolve the genre or sub genre (whatever you want to call it)of wrestling games.o.pwuaioc wrote:If you liked wrestling games. They have put out some decent video games over the years though, so I'm not gonna throw a party or anything with them being gone. It's a shame

Re: THQ is dead
They were pretty loved by the PC community as of late (2006ish) for putting decent ports on PC.
It's sad to see them go, but, as long as I can get CoH2 I wont be too bummed.

Game developers and companies are dropping left and right. I hate to say it, but I think we're heading for a 2nd crash if something doesn't change.

I would agree with you on Castlevania: LoS, except on level design. I though that the way that they did levels that felt like a 3D realization of a 2D level was original and amazing. Darksiders there's no help for though, it totally cribbed from other popular franchises and I thought the first one did it well and that the story was interesting. Darksiders 2, I agree, no soul. Hilarious considering you play Death.Gamerforlife wrote: The problem with the Darksiders series is that it has no soul. It just copies and pastes gameplay from other popular franchises. Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.
Re: THQ is dead
THQ deep-sixing their own company by pouring a shit ton into the uDraw and taking on too many other projects in development at the same time is not a sign that there's an impending crash. The industry is always changing, but anything resembling the infamous crash of the late VCS era is nowhere in sight.BurningDoom wrote:Game developers and companies are dropping left and right. Re: THQ is dead
I think Darksiders 1 benefited from just being a focused, action game with light elements from other popular games sprinkled in. Darksiders 2 can't make up its mind if it wants to be Prince of Persia, or Elder Scrolls, or God of War, or Zelda. It just steals liberally from all those games without bringing it together in any kind of cohesive, meaningful way.Stark wrote:I would agree with you on Castlevania: LoS, except on level design. The first Darksiders story I thought was entertaining if slightly confusing. It felt like a comic book. In Darksiders 2, I felt like I had no idea at all what the hell was going on. It's like the game kept coming up with bullshit, nonsensical story reasons to send me on stupid fetch quests regardless of whether or not any of it made sense. Plus, they got away from that dark, modern, supernatural sort of comic book vibe from the first game and instead brought in this weak, medieval fantasy vibe that just didn't work for me. It was like going from Devil May Cry to Lord of Rings and was really jarring

Re: THQ is dead
Hmm...I have mixed feelings on this. Yes, THQ helped bring out a lot of licensed material, much of it not of the highest quality. Let's face it, they probably won't ever be praised for Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends or the Bratz games. But not all of that licensed material was terrible. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War and its expansions and sequel come to mind.
And THQ helped publish other companies' games, like helping Sega put out the Sonic Advance series or helping Double Fine Productions put out Stacking, Costume Quest, and the PAL release of Psychonauts. There are some real gems that may have never made it without them.
And then again, there is the SNES port of Pit-Fighter...
