If you've actually finished Cloakwood it should be telling you to go to Baldur's Gate next. Did you read all the letters in the boss area?
I got back to it and it turns out I wasn't finished with the quest yet.
I'm in those tunnels underneath their base.

Speaking of spoilers, it's really hard for me to avoid them in this type of game. So many times I'll complete a quest, and wonder if I did it the best way. So I read a faq, find out I could get more EXP another way, and repeat the quest. I try not to spoil future quests by reading up on them in advance, but I just hate leaving EXP on the table. It's not always clear what the best ending is, e.g. you get more EXP for killing Rufie than returning him to Albert.

Anyone else do this, or do you just let things happen as they happen?

Nah, it isn't too hard to hit exp cap in this game. So I usually choose the solution that seems most fun or in line with what my character would do.

The game has an experience cap, and it's fairly low (not a level cap, since different classes level at different rates). If you don't have Tales of the Sword Coast installed I'm pretty sure you'll hit it unless you're racing through and skipping as much content as possible. If you do have TotSC installed then you'll have to do most of the sidequests and the new content to hit the cap.

Played a bit more today. I ran into that character that could kiss one of your party members and kill them that O.Pw mentioned earlier. The tricks are --

-obviously don't have the main character talk to her
-after the party member is killed, attack her
-she talks again, and offer to help her fight the Ogre Mage that has her controlled, she will then resurrect that party member (with minimal HP)
-kill the Ogre Mage
-collect your reward then head further south to see "The Surgeon" who heals all your party members once.

Spent today in the area north of the Friendly Arms Inn fighting off Ankheg after Ankheg. Did the "10 Ankheg quota" quest, and went down into the appropriately named Ankheg Pit to save the farmer's son. I'm a bit sick of them by now -- but getting ever so close to that bandit camp finally! I obviously won't beat the game this month, but I'll keep at it.

All right, I pushed really hard, but I cleared the Bandit Camp and Chapter 3 today! Ready to do Chapter 4 next week. Hopefully somewhat halfway done!

Myself and Imoen are Level 6, everyone else is Level 5.

Basilisks suck, but they give you TONS of XP.
