This is really the best advice. Spend some time on AVS and try to find a dedicated thread for the TV in question. You can copy the the calibrated settings for your model, but every set is unique in producing its a/v capabilities. So yeah, try some generally accepted settings for your TV, and then tweak as Queso mentioned.

Yep - AVS is the best place to go to calibrate your TV; after setting up mine I am constantly blown away by how beautiful and natural the colors are displayed (especially with blu-ray playback).

I'm not sure why a CRT TV would have "Game Mode" anyway. The whole point of it is to reduce the lag caused by the processing in modern displays. CRTs don't have that problem.
Maybe you're thinking of some picture preset called "Game mode" that your CRT might have.
Something I've noticed with the Samsung sets I've got ... the video settings you put in are generally per input. So if you switch to another source you'll have to recalibrate. It'll save it ... but it's per source.

Mine's that way too. Wish that was optional. I can see how it would be useful, but it's annoying to spend hours putting settings into one input only to have to do it all over for every other one.

My older Samsung set this is true, but the newer "smart" TV we picked up last year does away with that.
I've found that with Game Mode the colors are always off. This is the case on every TV i've used for gaming. I prefer the good old VCR and Channel 3
