I take it you need to replace an oscillator to change the clock speed to change the color then?...
You need to replace the master oscillator, switch the video encoder into NTSC mode, and then you need to switch out the subcarrier for the encoder so that it's 3.58 MHz (for PAL it's 4.43 MHz). The Z80 will be running at 3.58 MHz after the oscillator's switched out, which means I won't have to add a crystal just for the subcarrier.
Still not completely sure how you're going to do certain parts of the mod, but thanks anyway...

Switching the video encoder is done by connecting it to either 5V or 9V right?...

Hope you will take pictures and post a little 'how to' for us... ^^

Or maybe a link to a decent guide?...

What do you mean by "certain parts"?

It's done by connecting pin 7 of the encoder to either 5V (NTSC) or ground (PAL), having 9V going through it would kill the encoder for sure. I'll see about getting pics of the procedure once I pick up the master oscillator I need.

The practical side of the mod. Things like which pins to use, what oscillator to use...

I'm probably never going to bother doing this mod myself being in PAL territory, but I find that stuff interesting. Even though I don't know that much of circuits. Did a few mods myself, but instead of just following a guide like a monkey I'd rather understand what I'm doing. Hence all the questions...

When I was still in school it was just the same. I never stopped asking questions. Some teachers loved that, others not so much... lol

I didn't even know what an oscillator was until I replaced one in my Dreamcast to overclock it to 240MHz... ^^

today at the flea market I got a rock band microphone and USB hub for 5 dollars

I also found a disk only of super mario sunshine for 2 dollars.

found a very clean, complete, pristine woody Atari 2600 console for 25 dollars. the seller wanted 30 dollars for it and I offered him 20 dollars but we met halfway

there were hardly any scratches on the system, nor was there any dust between the grooves. from a visual standpoint it seems to hardly been used in the past 2 decades.

it came with 1 standard controller and 1 paddle controller. they seem to be very clean and hardly used. it didn't come with any games but that didn't matter because I have plenty already.

One thing that was missing was the switch box so I went to Radio Shack and I bought an RF plug adapter.

I can only hope it works, but I'm sure it will, Ataris are pretty tough

Let's see if I can get this to work.

I'm on my tablet right now and it sucks when you only have one front facing camera.

I'm letting my brother use my other computer right now, and he took my SD card with it.

OK then, let's hope this picture does it justice

Sweet! How much did you pay if you dont mind me asking? I find these every so often and it is hard to gauge what to pay. I usually try to shoot for $15-20 depending on the bundle and what type of vendor (garage sale, thrift store, etc).

Hahahah yeah.... no Mormon thrift stores in Maine. The Christian thrift stores are full of bootleg games for some reason.

Info was posted in the previous Reply, twenty five bucks.

@ flojocabron - Nice unit, the pic came out better then some cell phone pics I have seen posted. I think you are better off without that RF switchbox due to poor shielding. I like the robust cart slot of the older Atari, the newer 7800 inspired design just don't feel as solid.

Fiftydollar mentioned a while back that the Mormons treat household items as "money", hence all the great stuff found at the Desert Thrift Stores. Certainly different from that Christian store you described.
