What RPG are you playing right now?
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
I am currently playing The World Ends with You and I am really enjoying it so far. It's fun to just stop and read people's minds and the battle system is really unique. I only have a few hours into it right now so still getting used to different pins and learning about clothing styles.

Yeeeeeahhhhh.... and the fact that this is an early 90s CD game means that there's that lovely little stuttery load procedure every time a battle begins.Phades wrote:Cosmic Fantasy 2 is pretty great.... or at least it was great back when I originally played it (at release). The biggest problem I remember is that the random battles were a bit over done. Sometimes, you'd take 2 steps between every encounter. That could get a bit tedious.BoneSnapDeez wrote:I'm going to start Cosmic Fantasy 2 on Turbo CD. It was released in 1992 and localized by Working Designs. The game looks "generic", which is exactly what I'm in the mood for.
I actually do own Cosmic Fantasy 1, but I'm feeling lazy and don't want to play through a Japanese-language RPG. If I like 2, I'll check out 1 (and maybe buy 3 & 4).
Still quite a charming game though - I love these early CD RPGs, before the days of multiple discs and ugly 3D graphics on pre-rendered backgrounds.

I loved Ys III. I don't know if it's true that the SNES port is the worst version, but I thought it was a wonderful and enjoyable experience that was very different from the RPGs I'm used to playing, even on the console.BoneSnapDeez wrote:So how did you like Ys III?
I love The 7th Saga. If you're looking for an incredibly difficult "Western" JRPG with a great atmosphere, give it a go. It's definitely an acquired taste, but I enjoyed it immensely.
I'd like to check out some of those "lesser-known" games you mentioned later this year. They tend to be cheaper than the well-known titles, which is nice.
I do own Eye of the Beholder and Drakkhen. Eye of the Beholder is okay... It's a Western RPG (D&D) of course, I'd honestly rather just play the Abandonware DOS version.
Drakkhen is kinda cool, but my god is it weird. You have to go into it with the right mindset. It's hard to explain - play it and you'll see what I mean. The game's sequel, Dragon View, is also on the SNES though I haven't played it.
Paladin's Quest is a game I'd like to try some day - seems like it could be a hidden gem. The sequel, Lennus II, is also on the SNES but it's Japan-only (there is an English ROM hack though).
I really can't get enough of SNES RPGs...
I do own 7th Saga but have never given it a concentrated push. In fact, I own several RPGs that I haven't really tried out beyond testing the cartridge. That was part of the reason why I was wondering what of the lesser known titles should I look into. For instance, should I play Robotrek next, or should I spend time in Arcana?
Admittedly though, I've gone back to play through a classic I've only spent a tiny amount of time with: Secret of Mana.

Honestly, Robotrek was the only RPG I owned as a kid that I never played to completion. Just couldn't get into it. Arcana looks awesome, it's one I may have to pick up before year's end.

I have been thinking about sitting down with it lately, but decided to get the big name out of the way first, hence SoM.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Honestly, Robotrek was the only RPG I owned as a kid that I never played to completion. As for my SNES collecting, I'm thinking about making a push for the remaining RPGs I don't own. I have quite a few of the big names, but many of the western-style dungeon crawlers have eluded me. So I'm going to look into things like Brain Lord, Orbitus, and Ultima VI. Should be fun!

I really, really liked Arcana when I was younger. Looking back, I have no idea why...In any event, I never did complete it. I think that I should revisit it someday.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Honestly, Robotrek was the only RPG I owned as a kid that I never played to completion. Just couldn't get into it. I am currently playing Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GC). I have collected four of the crystal stars, and I am currently working my way through the trouble (a/k/a fetch quest) list. I am enjoying it, but I do not think it is quite as good as the first game. That said, the unique art direction has aged really well, and the game looks great.

Yes and no. I like the game a lot, really, but there have been several points where I've found myself almost screaming at the horrendous pathfinding for the AI partners. "Good God, sprite, you're stuck AGAIN?!" has come out of my mouth more than once.o.pwuaioc wrote:Always a good choice.Ack wrote:Admittedly though, I've gone back to play through a classic I've only spent a tiny amount of time with: Secret of Mana.

Sounds a lot like my experience with Syndicate on DOSAck wrote:Yes and no. Anyways, I'm still playing FFXIII. Chapter X was slow as hell but chapter XI is more varied and entertaining.

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
I just picked up Elder Scrolls: Oblivion for 360 for 6 bucks and am having a blast with it. I have never been THAT much of an RPG guy but this game may be shifting my interests. After I finish this one I may go pick up Skyrim and give it a whirl
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)
Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping!
