Anyone played Lightening Force for the Genesis/MD?
I was playing this a bit today, and it seems like a pretty good game. the visuals are nice even today. it seems to be pretty tough though. i keep getting my ass handed to me, but i will probably play this one some more. anyone else play this? what are your thoughts? is it worth the persistence?

Anybody who has not played it should be punched in the face.
There's nothing better than Thunder Force IV, MUSHA and Gaiares on the MD.

lol, I haven't played a lot of shooters. I played 1942 and contra a lot when i was a kid, but i have neglected them since. I'm giving them a shot again. I briefly played Musha and gairies, just to see if i would like them, and i will be giving them another shot.Doctor Fugue wrote:Anybody who has not played it should be punched in the face.![]()

Lightening Force is amazing and probably the best horizontal shmup on the Genesis....Gleylancer is pretty dang good too. It's definatly putting some time into. First off figuring out which order to take on the planets can be very helpful. i always take out the desert planet first, because it's difficult to me, plus if you don't die you end up with some stellar weapons. I really love the boss fights in this game, and the level design is fantastic. You can't forget the absolutely cheese-tastic heavy metal sound track.disorderlyvision wrote:lol, I haven't played a lot of shooters. A tip...and I know the Doc is going to hate this one
on the main start screen you can hold A,B & C down and press start to access the menu. Set the number of lives to zero and you'll get 99 lives. That way you can live long enough to see the end and get a feel for the levels. Give it a couple run throughs then try it without the cheat.
Oh a side note....
I think MUSHA,Thunder Force III & Lightening Force are a bit more user friendly than Gaiares, but all are great fun. Gaiares is brutal.

It seems I have some punching to do.
*Makes fist, ready for punching*
Seriously, dudes...Lightening Force/Thunder Force IV is awesome. Not everyone likes it, but then again, not everyone is smart.
Would you like some fruit punch? Or perhaps fist punch?

Exactly. It's like a punch in the face. The key is to be grateful it isn't a punch in the nuts.ott0bot wrote:Gaiares is brutal.

hehe....It feels lik a punch in the nuts after geeting reamed by some jerk-wad's mega laser 8 times in a row. oh and thats level 1!!!! You must steal to survive...and never ever under any circumstances should you die. May as well press reset!Doctor Fugue wrote:It seems I have some punching to do.![]()

I think I spent the most time with Gaiares back in the day, even more than MUSHA. I really like the stealing. I'll never finish it with one credit, but oh well. I'll never beat TFIV either! Grr..

I only picked it up 6 months ago and I really enjoy it. I play alot of 16 bit shmups and, even though I was warned, I was really suprised by the difficulty. Usually someone says how hard a shmup is and I don't have too much of a problem catching on. It took me like a month before I got the hang of it. I've made it to level 4 but then i get trounced. I though Hellfire was a pain, but sheesh.
Oh yeah....Thunder Force is a bitch, I think 3 is bit easier to get through without cheats.
