I think that the SMS's extreme popularity abroad makes it much more likely that you will find PAL games for that system. (Other than the SMS, I think that I have only encountered some PAL PS2 games in the wild...)

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
the only PAL stuff I've ever found locally was Dreamcast. I'm guessing that ease of playing imports has a lot to do with that.prfsnl_gmr wrote:I think that the SMS's extreme popularity abroad makes it much more likely that you will find PAL games for that system. Actually I've seen ones where the funky screws got loose and could be tightened. You just have to have some really skinny needle nose pliers or otherwise jerry rig something.aaron wrote: if your AC adapter is taped together, but still works, use Gorilla Glue around the edges and let it dry overnight. you can be pretty liberal with it as the excess on the outside will pick off pretty easily once it's dry, but the inside will stay connected. i've refurbished a few of these like this, and they've all passed the "drop test."

haven't run into those yet. the only ones i've seen have snapped posts on the "plug" side of the adapter. (i.e. actually in two pieces, not just loose)Hobie-wan wrote:Actually I've seen ones where the funky screws got loose and could be tightened. that's a good idea though, no need to glue it if you don't have to.
just need some of these.

Depends on whether they've been dropped or dropped, yeah.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
Some nice stuff from the local Mormon thrift store chain:

Virtual Boy - $40.00
with Mario's Tennis and Red Alarm
$40 is usually way more than I would consider spending on a video game console from a thrift store, but I don't think I've actually seen one of these before and couldn't not get it. It's missing the black eyepiece thing I think, but it works well. My first time playing the Virtual Boy first hand and I have to admit, I think it's pretty fun and isn't as bad as it's reputation suggests.

Star Wars (NES - boxed) - $2.00. The label on the cartridge inside is rough but hey, an NES box!
Streets of Rage (Game Gear) - $2.00.

Shadowrun (SNES) - $2.00
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES - Player's Choice) - $2.00
Sim City (SNES - Player's Choice) - $2.00
Stargate (SNES) - $2.00
Plok (SNES) - $2.00
Kirby's Avalanche (SNES) - $2.00
Natsume Championship Wrestling (SNES) - $2.00

I need to remember to hit up my local mormon run thrift store more often! Some of the best deals I have seen posted here over the years have come from there. Awesome scores on everything there!FiftyDollarCurse wrote:Some nice stuff from the local Mormon thrift store chain:

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
You need to replace the master oscillator, switch the video encoder into NTSC mode, and then you need to switch out the subcarrier for the encoder so that it's 3.58 MHz (for PAL it's 4.43 MHz). The Z80 will be running at 3.58 MHz after the oscillator's switched out, which means I won't have to add a crystal just for the subcarrier.elmagicochrisg wrote: So you have a PAL 60 signal, and you want an NTSC signal.
I take it you need to replace an oscillator to change the clock speed to change the color then?...
