its sad i know exactly what he is talking about, i also miss just sitting for hours in Org trade chat trolling. it was especially funny around the 2008 election, good times man . also i remember when you could use hunter snake traps to kill level 1's in their starting areas, i laughed so hard my side hurt, also using a pet infected with huhurahn's sting to kill everyone in the auction house was hilarious.

It means luring an outdoor boss to a major city by attacking it first so it starts chasing after you, then running away from it and leading it to a big city. Bosses like this are meant to killed by a group 40 organized players (but can be kited by a few), so releasing one to major city, full of unsuspecting and more importantly unorganized players might lead into hundreds of players getting annihilated. Just wanted to throw a couple thoughts out there on this old thread and see if you guys/girls might chime in.
I am currently debating my next Retro system purchase. Here is the essential question that is bothering me right now:
Do I want to pick up a system that I had as a kid and re-play old games and dig deeper into a vast game library or pick up a system that I missed out on and has an equally huge library to enjoy?
The systems in question are irrelevant, they are both worth owning, but is it better to re-live and enjoy some nostalgia or jump into the unknown for the first time?
What have your experiences been like? Have any of you been disappointed by experiencing a console for the second time or have you gotten into something new and wished you had just stuck with the system you know and love?

Honestly, I don't really feel nostalgia for my gaming experiences I had when I was a kid that much though I do miss a few things:
My dad's SNES collection. After he divorced and moved, he took it and I was stuck with an XBox.
When I bought my first Pokémon game, Diamond. There was an overwelming sense of wonder and mystery with exploring and discovering the world and all the Mons. I think part of the reason I haven't finished Soulsilver or White (both bought on launch day) is because the games just don't seem as new and mysterious anymore now that I've already learned about these games and the secrets they hold.

It depends on whether you want familiarity or pure exploration. An older console you once had is a safer bet. You'd be able to replay old favorites, while discovering new ones. You're guaranteed to enjoy at least a few titles right off the bat.
I bought a Saturn over a year ago, due to the many people raving about it, but now it sits in a plastic tub (with a few other consoles) in "the spare bedroom". I enjoyed games like NiGHTS, D, and Clockwork Knight - but overall I didn't fall in love like I had with my Dreamcast, or Genesis. Most games of interest are too pricey for me to take a risk on when I have so many similar alternatives on other platforms.
Even if you buy an older console you're unfamiliar with, chances are you'll still be yearning for nostalgia on that other system. I say if you gotta ask, then go with what you know.

<< I agree with this to a great extent. My Odyssey2 and NES purchases have allowed me to revisit some titles that I loved, as well as explore games that I've only read about as a result of this site. I've been able to revisit AND explore.

<< Nintendork666 and I are on the same page. Some chances on new systems turn out better than others. I have trouble pinning the reasons down. Cost, availability of games, controller feel... they all play a part.
For systems where I was exploring: Genesis? Love it. Dreamcast? It has a lot of fun titles. Saturn? It's been hooked up for over a year, but I've not played on it enough to feel that the cost was justified.

Handhelds: GB, GBC, GBA, DS lite, DSi, Virtual Boy (<< is that even a portable?)

SS Pinball: GTB Circus, GTB Count-Down, GTB Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Stern Lectronamo, Stern Galaxy, Bally Black Pyramid
Super Nintendo>Genesis>PS2=PS1(assuming you're not put off by the PS1's dated graphics)>Dreamcast>Saturn>everything else
Arcades in the late eighties and early nineties > than everything listed above
I should note that the Super Nintendo being in first is largely due to its third party stuff. I don't get as fanboyish over their first party titles as other people do, though some of it certainly was good. In fact, if it just came down to first party titles I'd put the Genesis over the SNES. Suck it Mario! Sonic rocks! It's the third party stuff that really made the Super Nintendo rock, and it is the BEST console Nintendo ever put out. The SNES and Genesis being first and second is largely due to my love for the era of 16-bit gaming. NES doesn't make the list because the SNES library was better in every way and updated most of the NES classics
