I think it looks phenomenal considering the technical limitations. I wonder why they didn't release the game on the 32X or Sega CD.shwisha wrote:Zero Tolerance for sega genesis. Yeah it doesn't look so great but remember this is a FPS on a Sega Genesis in 1994...

That would of been awesome. Zero Tolerance was the first FPS that I ever played all the way through. I didn't have a PC so I was missing out on the Wolfenstein/Doom phenomenon until I got Zero Tolerance. The game has all the fast pace action and when you got shot you'd get pushed back and it'd get your heart pumping in those battles.KillerJuan77 wrote:I think it looks phenomenal considering the technical limitations. Oh yeah and it has a FLAME THROWER! I'd get dozens of enemies chasing me then turn around and watch them burn. It was awesome!

Slowly making my way through Far Cry 3.
I really still don't see what makes this game so great.

Older. Not wiser.

glad to see the Zero Tolerance love! I spent many hours with that one - a classic!
Y'all know the devs released the ROM of the sequel for free, right?

I just found out about the game and the fact that it's freeware. I'm still probably getting it, how didn't I hear about the game before?! Also, I hate to ask this but how's the framerate considering there is a flamethrower and that the game is already pushing the limits of the hardware? It looks remarkably smooth in videosdsheinem wrote:glad to see the Zero Tolerance love! I spent many hours with that one - a classic!

I'm slowly making my way through Doom 1 & 2 via Brutal Doom mod. Let me know if you guys want to try some co-op through Doomseeker.

Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
I decided to try again DUST 514 (I was in the closed beta since I played EVE for like... 30 hours
) since I may have been WAY too harsh on the game and guess what? It's still fairly terrible and you're hearing this from a guy that liked Shellshock 2 and MOH: Warfighter.
It's ambition is commendable and some things including the complexity level and economic detail are absolutely astonishing (It makes ArmA II look like Call Of Duty. Not that it's bad thing) but the gameplay, visuals and F2P mechanics are horrendous. The game looks bad, runs at 20-10 FPS whenever there are more than 3 characters on screen, it's not clear which weapons are permanent or not (And the better ones cost actual money) and the game is laggy and clunky beyond belief.
I know it's an open beta but the game is just as bad as it was in the closed beta. It's a shame since I was looking forward to this.

Admittedly do you think some of that will be handled once the game merges fully with EvE? I mean, what with weapon costs and all...once you've got a major corporation or alliance backing you, that should be a bit easier to deal with, since they'll likely keep at least some of their land mercs well stocked.
I still wish it was a PC game...

The weapon costs could actually be affected if you are part of a corporation or enterprise since it could become cheaper but the problem is that the game isn't clear about which weapons are permanent and which ones aren't. This is also a problem since the game sometimes spawns you IN FRONT OF AN ENEMY!Ack wrote:Admittedly do you think some of that will be handled once the game merges fully with EvE? The game supports mouse and keyboard and Move. I played it with M&K and it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had in an FPS. If the bad framerate, constant stuttering and floaty mechanics (Picture something like Killzone 2 with 10000 times more imput lag) were bad enough with a controller then imagine that with a mouse and keyboard. Some menus are easier to access with the keyboard but that's it. The idea of playing it with the Move or Sharpshooter attachment makes me want to choke in my own vomit.
It's obvious that CCP don't know how to make a solid FPS yet, let alone a competitive one. The ambition is there and to be fair... your player's station/house/ship/whatever looks amazing with some of the best looking character models and reflections I've seen in a while on consoles but the forced microtransactions (If you even want to succeed in the game), ugly visuals when you are fighting, horrendous framerate issues, textures that fail to load, floaty controls, terrible spawning and clunky menus it makes you wonder how they have spent four years in this.
It could have a future but right now it's very bleak. Also as a PC game it could fix the engine's problems but the gameplay would have to be fixed as well.
BTW I know this is a single player FPS thread but I wanted to take a break from MOH: Airborne to give this game, Path of Exile and Defiance's betas a shot.
Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
Actually I wonder if the problem isn't that CCP doesn't know how to make an FPS but instead that they don't know how to program a console game. Do they have any experience in the area?
It's a shame about it though. I was really hoping it would work. I wanted to play EvE again...except without the spaceships. It's the players' ability to influence the economy and the politics that attracts me to the game, not the actual gameplay.
