The 90's Arcade Racer (Kickstarter)
The 90's Arcade Racer (Kickstarter)
This is the kind of stuff Kickstarter was made for, no commercial developer would dare release a real arcade-style racer nowadays. I really, really hope this makes it and I pledged £60 the moment I heard of it.

Wow. That looks really nice! A kickstarter I could actually get behind.
Re: The 90's Arcade Racer (Kickstarter)
And the project has just reached its initial £10k goal, nice!

You're planning on putting this game into a cabinet? Now that'd be interesting to see.

Re: The 90's Arcade Racer (Kickstarter)
I've already emailed the guys in charge of the project!
I have the standup version Virtua Racing complete with force feedback strong enough to rip your arms off, V.R.-View buttons, paddle shifters and fancy blinking lights!
I got it from a friend broken a year ago, and never got around to finding exactly what was wrong with it, but at this point it's just not worth fixing to me (Model 1 arcade boards are massive, insane, and overly complex), so I'd rather convert it into something new.
EDIT!: This is a picture of the type of VR cab I have (not mine, just a pic I found online). I don't know if I could make the original monitor work with a PC, but if not, I wouldn't mind loosing that too.

Monitor should be easy enough with an Arcade VGA, but the wheel is going to be the pain.

Re: The 90's Arcade Racer (Kickstarter)
Hi-res VGA arcade monitors are a pain to source and even more-so in decent shape without burn-in or dying boards that need a total recapping so I'm going to weigh my options.
I know there are dedicated CGA adapters for RGB monitors in arcade cabs, but who knows, I might just buy an arcade/industrial grade LCD panel (4:3 of course!) from the local auction of comparable size and try that. Bt to be honest I don't want to loose the warm sharp glow of a CRT.
