Heads up: Freecycle

Post by disorderlyvision »

I get a daily e-newsletter from a local freecycle group. i think freecycle is national, and there are local groups on yahoo, maybe other places. Basically they are a green organization. instead of throwing out old stuff poeple post it on there to see if anyone else wants it first. it has to be given away for free, no selling. anyway there is a lot of interesting stuff people throw away. yesterday somone was getting rid of some old atari and nintendo carts. i got beat to it this time, but i figured i would give you guys a heads up, and you can see if you have a local group. you never know what people are giving away.

I have been using it quite a bit. I got some old school reel lawn mowers from some freecyclers and got rid of an old ice cream machine that was broken but fixable. My only complaint is that good items go within 2 minutes of posting, but I still gotten some cool stuff.

yeah, stuff can go quick. i seem to get beaten to an item most of the time, but like you said, i have still managed to get some cool stuff. also, i have used it to get rid of some of the clutter in my house. i haven't had naything go unclaimed, so it seems to be a good way to get rid of stuff too.

i've used it. you kinda have to watch your email or get it delivered to your phone in order to get the best stuff. i got some cool things but most of the stuff around here is just junk. it's kind of more of a hassle than i want to deal with so i got out of it. but yeah.

side note: there was some drama on my freecycle group because someone came to pick up something from someone's house and STOLE a little girl's bike. omg draaaaaamaaaa

I've made out pretty well on freecycle too. Got my genesis that way. I also got my 36 inch Gateway Destination monitor (which is quite awesome for free!). Giving things away through it can sometimes be a hassle, but for the most part i've had good response and it kept my old stuff out of the land fill.
