I really want to find the original original comics again. I adored those in my youth.

I don't know if I had a friend who didn't doodle Eastman and Laird's Turtles on a notepad during school. And I don't find it too embarrassing that I used to send my doodles to the Archie comic book line. They're fun and easy to draw.

Shredder, not so much.

Back on topic, going to watch Django Unchained again in the theater, take notes, and then revisit Kill Bill 1&2 (after the hockey game of course).

Edit* DJANGO UNCHAINED
I'll stick by my original review. The pacing is sometimes off and some scenes overstay their welcome. Half an hour could have been cut and it would have been a better movie.

Surprisingly to me, the theater had at least 50 people to see the 12:30 showing.

So! Notes notes notes. I can kind of buy into the set designs, but some are too ornate for 1895 Texas. The only time someone steps in shit is on a plantation, and the owner pays no mind. I'd really like to know where Djanout go's and Dr.Scholls (you thought about that name too at some point) hide was, and if it was an actual location. Some shots were obvious backdrops, which had to be intentional and an homage to Westerns.

Noticed more symbolism this time around and felt a heavy Christian vibe at times, which isn't usually QT's style. Also noticed that I didn't previously notice Leo served Osso Buco, but no one takes the time to eat it. The references of literature and music also stood out a bit more this viewing. Which reminds me of a few funny comments I overheard:

"Did he say Dark-tan-yon?"

"He shot the sheriff, but he didn't shoot the deputy."

"Isn't that McLovin's chubby pal?"

But one thing remains the same: Waltz is amazing. My only criticism of his performance is that he is very in "Heath Ledger Joker" mode. Not only in his gesticulation, but in the inflection of his voice. My only other criticism is that the make-up could have used a lot more touching up. Maybe it was a choice of style, but the make up will probably look awful on blu-ray.

Blah, blah, blah. Not his best, but definitely worth spending a day at the theater to see.

AND IT IS NOT A SPAGHETTI WESTERN!!!!!!!!!!

Same here, Kill Bill speaks to me and my interests more than his other works. I've seen Reservoir Dogs, Inglorious Bastards, and Pulp Fiction. All fun movies, but Kill Bill was the only one that made me go, "I love Tarantino." Though I actually like Robert Rodriguez movies more than I do Tarantino. The El Mariachi trilogy and Sin City beats out anything Tarantino has done for me

For me, Kill Bill Vol 1 is better than 2, but does it matter? It was supposed to be all one movie anyway, just seems like he crammed all the action and good stuff into the first half for whatever reason. Volume 2 was too talky, and she came across as much less of a bad ass than she was in the first volume, always taking the easy way out in every encounter or getting blasted flat on her ass by a shotgun. She just seemed so weak in Volume 2.

I just saw Django Unchained also and agree that it ran a half an hour too long.. Still a great movie, and worthy of one of the best of the year IMO..

I respectfully have to say you are out of your mind. QT makes original movies, pen on paper to film on screen. They are works of art, not "Let's take this source material and make it a movie".

I'd say one of the ten best, but not in the top five. 2012 had some stellar movies and although UNCHAINED is great, it's judged on the previous films from QT, which I think has become fair game.

Well I actually think this year was weak for movies.. I saw Argo in the theatre as well and Django was much better... I'm pretty sure either Lincoln or Zero Dark Thirty takes the best picture oscar however, will see both later along with Flight and Silver Linings Playbook.. I hear the Master is great also...

Double posting because it should be said...

Ugh. The trailers before UNCHAINED made the movie a lot better because of how shitty the trailers were. I got:

The condensed DIE HARD trailer, which is awful.

DARK SKIES, which made me belly laugh at its stupidity.

The not Will Smith post apocalypse movie with Tom Cruise that will be garbage.

DEADMAN DOWN. Which could be interesting...but already reminds me of the awful Total Recall remake.

Movie 42. People in the theater let out a roar at every "Black people have big dicks" joke. Christ. Spike Lee should have targeted this movie with his hate for stereotyping and racism, not DJANGO.

Luke-

You mention the sets being "Too ornate for 1859 Texas" in Django... you know they are only in Texas for a small portion of the movie, right? And there's only one run down town in that part...

I saw this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1245492/ in preview.. It could be good if Danny McBride, James Franco and Seth Rogan have the on screen chemistry they did in Pineapple Express..
