Avengers vs. X-Men was terrible. I'd save my money if I were you and buy something better. If you want a good X-Men story, pick up the original Age of Apocalypse saga. Or if you want a good Avengers story, pick a Trade Paperback from Kurt Busiek's Avengers run from the late 90s/early 2000s.TheRev wrote:My backlog is too large for me to pick up anything new. ALTHOUGH I'll make an exception for the complete Avengers VS X-Men with CM Punk's Forward and Deadpool kills the Marvel Universe.

Re: The Comic Book Thread
So I've been recently going back and re-reading the original Age of Apocalypse storyline. It's taking a little while, but it's been great. It's still as epic as it was when I read it 15+ years ago. And I'm catching a lot of stuff I didn't catch the first time, connecting a lot of the dots that I didn't before.
I came across something in particular that stood out to me and really made me go "wow". I'm sure many of you remember the way Wolverine (going by Weapon X in the storyline) and Cyclops looked like in the Age of Apocalypse, particularly that Cyclops only had 1 eye (literally) and Wolverine only had one hand:

One of the little details I had forgotten about was that they both mention that in the past they had gotten into a fight, which the results of which was Cyclops losing an eye and Wolverine losing a hand.
1. I didn't realize Cyclops optic blasts were powerful enough to destroy Adamantium (the Adamantium that would have been in the bones of Wolverine's hand).
2. This goes to prove that Wolverine's healing factor MOST-DEFINETLY has limits or else his hand would have healed back (albeit without Adamantium), which it didn't. Yet Wolverine fanatics insist he can survive pretty much anything.
I just thought that was interesting, and wanted to share.

Re: The Comic Book Thread
Anyone reading the Rotworld storyline? I'm really enjoying it, particularly the Swamp Thing part of it as I've never taken to the Animal Man side of it as much due to his obnoxious family. The Animal Man books are still good though, but Swamp Thing's better. Comic book characters with wives and kids are just not that cool
I'm also wondering where the Death of the Family storyline is going in the Bat titles. Of all the Bat family members, Joker seems to be hitting Nightwing the hardest, which I guess makes sense. He is for all intents and purposes Batman 2. He's a bigger player than the rest of the Bat family so he gets more of Joker's attention.
The stuff between Mr J. and Harley has been pretty effed up I must say. I like this new Joker. He seems permanently changed and I hope they don't go back on that. This version of him is more twisted and genuinely disturbing than ever. Speaking of permanent changes, poor Alfred......
Ah, I'm getting into spoiler territory now
I picked up The Walking Dead issue 106. That Negan is one seriously effed up guy

Re: The Comic Book Thread
I just found this thread and skipped back a few pages and haven't seen anything on Brian K. Vaughn's Saga. Has anyone read it? I'm all up to date, 'Chapter Nine' just hit store shelves last week. So far I'm LOVING it, the universe gets both stranger and more magically interesting with each issue. Both BKV's writing and Fiona Staples art are excellent. Totally worth a read for anyone looking for something new!

Who is the real leader of the JLA? Is it the heart of the JLA, Superman? Or is it the brains of the JLA, Batman?

Re: The Comic Book Thread
That's a sort of random question. Do you mean the current New 52 Justice League? There are two sides to leadership really. There's the superficial side of it. That's the part where you want someone charismatic and good looking because the average, stupid human being is more swayed by those qualities than anything else. Then that's the, "actually getting shit done" side of it which requires the intelligence to know how to properly use one's resources to actually achieve goals. Superman is the first part, he's the figurehead of the group. Batman is the second part. He knows how to actually get shit done.BurningDoom wrote:Who is the real leader of the JLA? In my opinion, Batman is a far more integral part of the group than Superman. All the power in the world means nothing if you don't know how to use it, and Batman is the strategic mind behind the Justice League. JLA: Tower of Babel makes it pretty clear who is the most important member of the League. It's the man who knows how to easily take it down.

but Superman will always be viewed as the League's true leader, and it has to be that way because the populace is most swayed by someone charismatic who can inspire the people. Batman just doesn't know how to do that, nor does he have the time to waste on such nonsense. He's too busy preparing for the next threat against the earth. Superman can handle the public appearances and all that crap

I'm in the mood for something scary!!! What are some amazing horror story graphic novels? List your favorites, please.

I'm currently reading, "Black Hole" which makes for a pretty interesting yet really disturbing read.

RE: Tower Of Babel
Has anyone here seen Justice League: Doom? I enjoyed that movie and I'm curious how well they adapted the original story. Was it a spot on translation like Batman: Year One, or did they take a more loose approach?
EDIT: If you're looking for something a bit creepy, try WE3 by Grant Morrison. That's one of the stranger comics I've read.

Any of the classic EC comics are great and ahead of their time. Easily some of the best artwork of the era, as well. They've been reprinted in various formats including Graphic Novels, single issue reprints, and magazine sized. So they're easy to find. Stuff like Vault of Horror, Tales From the Crypt, and Cauldron of Fear.christopher85 wrote:I'm in the mood for something scary!!! What are some amazing horror story graphic novels? Loose approach. But I still enjoyed it. Top-notch animation, as expected from Warner Bros. & DC collaborations.Retrodude wrote:RE: Tower Of Babel
