Here's an incompatibility list: http://sd2snes.de/blog/status/compatibility

Here's a status of all chips: http://sd2snes.de/blog/status

Here's a recent post about progress: http://sd2snes.de/blog/archives/289

In that last link, the author explains how requests for GSU support has been great so he's gonna try and focus on it.

I got my SD2SNES a few days ago and I love it. Now I just need to track down an uncompressed, English-patched Star Ocean ROM.

I don't know where you can get the pre-patched ROM, but I can tell you where to get the patches...

DeJap translation: http://www.romhacking.net/translations/452/

Neviksti's patch: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/614/

The original SFC ROM can be found easily with Google, I'm sure. And the patching tools can be found on romhacking.net as well.

Thanks for that, but it doesn't work. Obviously it won't run on my Mac and the xdelta program crashes my Windows XP PC. I found a ROM that was already translated but not expanded. I'm amazed that nobody has the already expanded version somewhere for download this being the internet and all. I guess only Windows hackers are privy to play these things.

I'm actually the one who uploaded the patch for the expanded ROM on romhacking.net. So, I made the patch from the already expanded ROM, which means I was able to download it from some where. It was a while ago now, but I believe it was straight from Neviksti. IIRC, he uploaded it and put the link on a forum some where. Try searching his user name and "star ocean" in a Google and you should find it.

edit: Found it.

Just scroll down to Neviksti's first post, he has the download links there.

That worked, thanks so much! What's weird is that the emulator I tried it on (SNES9x) wouldn't run it as it was complaining about a bad checksum, but it works perfectly fine on real hardware which is what matters.

View the readme for the patch, there's an explanation there. When I first discovered this hack, I was also wondering why it wouldn't work in an emulator. I contacted Neviksti about it. He told me that it uses an unusual mapper that most SNES emulators don't handle, but it does indeed work on real hardware.

Thanks for this post. I recently bought the mod chip and 4-in-1 for the Saturn from here then I hear about the everdrive carts from a video from youtube. The SNES cart interested me, but the compatibility of chips was a bit confusing. This should help. I played the roms off the PC, but my wife was turned off because it was not on the original hardware.
