I just got a saturn controller yesterday that had all sorts of gunk in the groove around the controller, and the dpad required me to take a tooth pick to it. Took it all apart and used warm soapy water and it looks almost new!

As for the smoker discussion, when I was younger my step dad would play sports games on the Dreamcast with me. Well he smokes cigaretts and weed, so we would get done playing and the controller would have black weed residue in the cracks and buttons, not to mention smelled like it
