AV2HDMI converter problems
So I purchased this converter box about a month ago and it just came in the mail today, and I hooked my snes into the box the box to my Sony monitor. However, when I turn the snes on there is no flicker on the screen and the monitor just says no signal. I know the snes is working because I plug it into my crt tv and everything shows up fine. Is there a possibility that I my box is broken, or is it not actually meant for what I am doing?

Probably doesn't like the 240p signal.
Have you tried something like a Ps2?

My PS2 doesn't seem to be working with the box either unfortunately.

Re: AV2HDMI converter problems
Turns out the power supply that it came with was broken. The box works great when trying to play my SNES on my sony 3D display monitor which outputs to 1080p.
Here's a picture of how it looks.
Interestingly when I use the box to play the SNES on my 720p tv the scaling seems to be off in that the screen gets the sides cut off a little. Not sure why it only displays properly on my 1080p monitor. There's also maybe a 10 millisecond lag between the buttons pressed and the character response, but that's hardly noticeable.

Nice, have you always liked SOS? or just discovered it recently, the little i played i got lost and gave up lol.

Looks like an inexpensive solution to get composite to a computer monitor, though the NES might look better with a 4:3 screen. As for the non centered picture, your TV might be able to compensate by adjusting the zoom or full screen stretch settings. One thing nice about the computer monitor is more flexibility in controlling horizontal and vertical screen size.PigInTheMud wrote:Turns out the power supply that it came with was broken. Out of curiosity, why not try the direct composite hookup to your TV? Usually newer HDs have a shared Composite/Component connection. You should be able to attach a video switchbox if you also need the Component connection.

Re: AV2HDMI converter problems
I picked it up recently, but I've grew up on PC games so I'm use to the SOS type gameplay. My favorite game genre is also survival so I am into the story. Although the game is short overall at 1 hour per a character. It's a fun little thing to play if you got nothing to do for an hour. I'd imagine it hasn't aged well for many gamers who didn't grow up with this style thoughHazerd wrote:Nice, have you always liked SOS? or just discovered it recently, the little i played i got lost and gave up lol.
The HD tv does have composite, but it just happened to be the first thing I tested the converter with. Genesis looks terrible on the tv though, I have yet to test out NES>CRTGAMER wrote: Looks like an inexpensive solution to get composite to a computer monitor, though the NES might look better with a 4:3 screen. Re: AV2HDMI converter problems
So after testing various consoles, the PS2, Wii, and genesis look horrendous on the monitor. There wasn't anything on the monitor's settings that I could change to fix it, but does anyone know of something that I can buy in order to make the N64/PS2/Genesis etc. look smooth and not grainy?

Component cables for the Ps2 and S-Video cables for the N64 would probably be a good start. You can get component for Gamecube if it has the right port in the back, but it'll cost an awful lot of money.PigInTheMud wrote:So after testing various consoles, the PS2, Wii, and genesis look horrendous on the monitor. Re: AV2HDMI converter problems
The older consoles might still appear grainy on the monitor due to the upscale, LCDs tend to fare worse. I run a Dreamcast with the VGA adapter which looks beautiful on a VGA CRT due to the Dreamcast supporting a 640x480 resolution. A N64 with a SVideo to VGA box also works, just not as sharp due to the limit of the older console.AppleQueso wrote:Component cables for the Ps2 and S-Video cables for the N64 would probably be a good start. The better cable connection will certainly help so still worth a try. In the case of Component, be sure to set the game to 480p or the Component Cable is wasted. The Gamecube has a one time setting, but the PS2 has different button hold combos during load depending on the game. Not all PS2 games support 480p, but enough are there that look better when enabled.
