Mega CD RAM Cart on US Sega CD?

Post by jinxmitchell »

Does anyone know if the Japanese Mega CD RAM cart works on the US Sega CD?

Another thing where I've read that this works and it doesn't work, but the Japanese RAM carts are much cheaper than US carts, so if they work I'd like to buy a new JP one for the cost of a used US one.

Hey there. I asked something similar in this thread. Apparently, you can get a Mega CD backup memory cart to work on a NA Genesis if you use a 32X.

I cannot verify this myself. I went ahead and just bought a Japanese Megadrive+Mega CD combo and bought a Japanese memory cart off of YAJ. It's real cool too and has pictures of Lunar characters on it.

But anyhow, I don't think the Japanese memory cartridge won't directly plug into your Genesis without some sort of passthrough.

Finally got a Mega CD RAM cart and it does work on a US system. It doesn't fit in the cartridge slot, even with a 32X, so I got a copy of Pat Riley Basketball and took a heat gun the the label to peel it off really easily. I then swapped the boards so the RAM was inside the US cart, and slapped on the label from the RAM cart (a complete Mega CD RAM cart comes with labels you put on yourself, so that's quite handy in this situation). I went ahead and replaced the battery, but I would prefer a battery holder rather than the tape I ended up using. I have them for 2032 batteries, but not for 2450 batteries. Any idea if the normal NES/SNES style batteries will work here?
