Mansion of Hidden Souls (SS) walkthrough [n/m made my own]

Post by mr_crimson »

Does anyone know where a walkthrough for the Sega Saturn version of The Mansion of Hidden Souls can be found? I've done a lot of googling but, haven't had any luck.

I actually had this recommended to me as a decent horror game. Is it really worth looking up?

The game is very different from the Sega CD version. The Japanese title roughly translates as "Newly Organized Mystery Mansion" and this is reflected most obviously in the fact that many of the rooms are different. Also, the souls don't appear as butterflies all the time. Usually when the talk they appear as floating heads (kinda weird). And then there's the plot. It's a sequel (though how the two stories fit together, I'm not sure yet) All I know is you play as one of the butterflies in the mansion (June), trying to solve the mystery of why the moon looks strange (red) and what that means.

The Sega CD version was easy (except for the 2nd secret passage) because the Black Painting gave you clues. In the Saturn version.... well, the black painting is still there, right where you left it, but the black part is missing and it doesn't seem to do anything. But the soul in that room (Jossie, I think) does give you a tarot reading and then gives you her tarot deck. It must be important, but I don't know what to do with it. All it does is let you pick a random card and it tells you it's name... "The Sun", "The Tower" etc....

The game looks a lot better than the Sega CD version, and you can have conversations in this game (sort of... you can only answer yes [A button]] or no .

I would say if you really like the Sega CD game, yes you should get this. But don't expect to be scared. And good luck figuring it out.

To be honest, this game was not at all too great. It was very short, the story was sub par at best, and from the title, you would expect it to be a "horror" game, but that is not the case at all.

I didn't even realize you could "die" until i was about 80% in, and I only died once because I failed to to give input in time (I didn't even realize input was required for most "decisions" until that late as well).

The game is very short and simple, you probably would have finished the game by the time you found a walkthrough if you had just spent time playing it instead.

I cannot speak for the Sega CD version, as I have not played that one. But as far as this version goes, I would suggest skipping this title, but if you are determined to play it, you will only waste about 4-5 hours of your life.

If you do happen to get stuck anywhere, shoot me a PM and I will try to remember the next step (don't want to post spoilers for the sake of others).

Well, I found out a little about how the two games connect... Elder in the Saturn game is the same as Jonathan in the Sega CD game. After the first game, there was a war (it's called "the war", so I assume WWII) and Samantha died in it. Elder/Jonathan realized that if he had let her sister become a butterfly in the mansion, she would've been safe. He gave up on humanity and went back to mansion to be reborn as a butterfly.

Somehow I'm starting to have more luck with the game now. Maybe I'll figure out how to beat it and make my own walkthrough.

I hated this game as a child because I finished it 3 hours after I started playing it.
