Together Retro: Baldur's Gate
Re: Together Retro: Baldur's Gate
You guys are fast, I've only just gotten to chapter 2. Anyone else catch Lord Foreshadow reminiscing about his nights in Neverwinter?
I've enjoyed a couple Python references too.

Hmmm.. just noticed this is Together Retro. I should boot up and join you guys. Life's a bit crazy right now though, so I'll be moving slow.
Is the EE version much better than a modded GOG version?

Re: Together Retro: Baldur's Gate
Weird coincidence. I missed out on the last TR's, and didn't even know what the 2013 calendar would be. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that the BD: Enhanced Edition had come out and finally decided to try the game out. Today I come here and see what the TR game of the month is.
Guess I'll join you guys on this one
I'm pretty new to the whole D&D thing, and although I played and beat Icewind Dale I never felt that I really knew what was going on. I don't see that changing now, mostly due to my lack of will in actually knowing the rules, but I'm just here for the trip and the story, as long as I can make progress I'm happy, even if the battles seem totally random to me.
Just completed the mines, I'm now wandering around, doing sidequests and and gaining exp.

So, I'm debating starting over with the Enhanced Edition.
What do you guys think?

Not worth it unless you're not going to play it on PCRyaNtheSlayA wrote:So, I'm debating starting over with the Enhanced Edition.

You can play the game on the BG2 Engine with BG1TutuDespite such deserving praise, there isn't much in the Enhanced Edition to merit such a high-reaching subtitle. Most of the improvements have long been available free of charge online with the fantastic BG1Tutu and a host of other mods that add an incredible number of features to the original game.
I've read that the enhanced edition also has a bunch of new bugs and that it's quite broken at times, not sure how true that is but if you're playing on the PC there's no reason to get it.

Re: Together Retro: Baldur's Gate
I am playing on the PC and I think it is worth it. The scaled UI and resolution is nice. There is also a zoom feature. A lot of engine bug fixes, and new characters. I have come across 1 new bug. Now that I have the EE I wouldn't want to go back to the original.Menegrothx wrote:Not worth it unless you're not going to play it on PCRyaNtheSlayA wrote:So, I'm debating starting over with the Enhanced Edition.

The big issue is don't get it if you have a system with some certain integrated graphics chips...

Zoom feature might be nice. I set the original version all up with mods to try and play for this, but haven't put much time into it. Part of what threw me off though was setting it at native resolution for my monitor, which makes things tiny (though that could be a strategic advantage I suppose).

Yeah, the EE clears that up. I hated the tiny ui with the modded game. Much better in EEisiolia wrote:Zoom feature might be nice. Re: Together Retro: Baldur's Gate
Yeah, I have the PC version of both the original and EE.
I'm not sure. Losing 4 or so hours progress would suck, but, I think i'd really enjoy widescreen support and a larger play field to view. Moving currently sucks at the 640x480 res of the original.

There is a resolution mod, but it scales everything and makes the UI tough to use.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Yeah, I have the PC version of both the original and EE.
