Which To Buy: Contra 3 or Contra: Hard Corps?

I want to pick up a new Contra game for my collection. I never played either back in the day and both look fun. Which of these two should I get and why?

Contra 3 since you say you've played neither of them. Contra Hard Corps is considered the hardest contra game around.

I'm partial to Contra 3. The branching storylines in it give it a ton of replay value.

But be forewarned as Kevman said it's very difficult.

Honestly, you're not going to go wrong either way. They are both classics, though Hard Corps seems to be more of a "cult" classic. Definitely, two of the best Contra games. Personally, I'd say go with Hard Corps. I really enjoyed that game, then grab yourself a copy of Shattered Soldier.

Hard Corps is one of those games that really shows what the Genesis can do, and it has a lot of cool stuff that Contra 3 doesn't have like multiple paths and playable characters. It came out after Contra 3 which makes it better in a lot of ways.

Based on my experience with Contra. I'd say Hard Corps is the best, followed by Shattered Soldier, then Contra 3 and finally the original Contra and Super C

The japanese version of Hard Corps has a 3-hit life bar, but all of the story is jibberish, which probably won't matter to you at all. If you want the TRUE Contra experience, the American version is one hit death and everything is translated

I'd also like to add that Hard Corps is not evenly remotely as hard as people say it is. The game is all about memorization, much like Shattered Soldier. Also, using the robot in Hard Corps gives you a huge advantage.

EDIT:I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's just something "cooler" about Hard Corps too. It has an attitude and style that is different from Contra 3 and I really dug it

A werewolf, a hot chick, a little badass robot and your classic looking male character. This game has got coolness in spades. I love when you select the female at the character select screen and she says, "let's rock!" Cheesy yes, but it just works in a Contra game

I don't know what all this Contra talk is, but my vote goes for Probotector.
