Ok, I never owned a neo-geo, my friend did and all i remember is fighters like samurai showdown and king of fighters. The only different game i recall is metal slug.
was there any different genres? was there a neo-geo rpg?
Neo-Geo RPG
Re: Neo-Geo RPG
There was a full blown RPG called Samurai Shodown RPG but it was only on NeoGeoCD. There was Crossed Swords on the Neo MVS/AES and it was sort of an action/rpg in the vein of The Super Spy, except it showed the top half of your character, not just the arms/hands.
The Neo had several genres, mainly fighting, but also puzzle, sports, driving, platformers and plenty of awesome Shmups.

Re: Neo-Geo RPG
Since the NeoGeo was primarily an arcade machine. (the AES is basically an MVS, AKA the motherboard inside NeoGeo arcade cabinets, but in a pretty case. It even shares the library of the MVS). Most of the games produced for the system were arcade orientated, IE, Fighters, Sh'mups, Sports, Gambling, Puzzle, Action. It's not possible to have an RPG on a system that is basically Pay-per-play, how would you charge for that?
Like Indecks said, the only RPG is SamSho RPG, but that's for the NeoGeo CD which was designed to be a home console due to it's use of CDs because it was easier to distribute and produce.

HOW DO YOU KNOW!? I've been wanting a translation for ages.. was it completed?
edit: I found some info on it. nice!
Re: Neo-Geo RPG
As far as the true Neo-Geo goes, yeah... no rpgs really. Arcade RPGs are very rare, and the Neo are arcade games.
That said, if you do count Samurai Shodown RPG... there's probably every genre represented. No rhythm games really, but you have shooters, fighters (tons), beat 'em ups, platformers, sports games, board games, quiz games, puzzle games... not really wanting for much.
