I have a Model 2. I run it through our Panasonic LCD tv in 4:3 mode. It's not ideal but it actually works pretty well with this television.
Have: Sega Genesis, SNES, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Atari 800XL, PC, N3DS XL, Wii U, GBA, Xbox One, Switch
Want: Games!!!

Re: My First SEGA Year in Review...
I just began collecting Sega stuff a year ago (in february) too! Although, I started with the Dreamcast, and not the Genesis, I still love it! I loved it so much, in fact, that I bought a Saturn a couple months ago as well. I freaking love the Saturn boxes; they're made of the cheapest plastic known to man, and there's absolutely no reason for them to be as big as they are, and yet it's because of their size that I love them so much. Next, I'm going to get a Genesis, because I'm working backwards for no reason whatsoever. The Master System's never really interested me; the only games I'm really interested in are the arcade ports (afterburner, space harrier, outrun, etc.), and from what I've read and seen, their later ports on the 32x, Saturn, and Genesis all outmatch the Master System versions in every way except the number of letters in the console name. Oh, and Phantasy Star, but I've already got the Phantasy Star GBA collection, so I'm not in a hurry to find the original.
Consoles: N64, Wii, Dreamcast, PS2, SNES, Saturn, Genesis, PS3, NES, Wii U, 2600, PS4
Handhelds: Game Boy Advance, 3DS, PSP, New 3DS

Yes, Truxton is not for the weak. Truxton will suck you in, grab you by the throat, and squeeze the life out of you! It takes a true master of shoot-em-ups to overcome Truxton's destructive crush. Or you could just set the game to Easy for Free Play.marlowe221 wrote:I am convinced I will never see the end of Truxton outside of Youtube.
Nice to see you're having a good time with Sega so far. Here's hoping for another good year with Sega!

Re: My First SEGA Year in Review...
That's a great start! If could recommend a few titles? Landstalker, Streets of Rage 3 and Sub-Terrania.marlowe221 wrote:Christmas Day will mark the end of my first Sega year. I received a Sega Genesis with several games as a Christmas present last year - the console I always wanted to try after growing up on the SNES side of the console wars back in the day.
It's been a great year with the Genesis!
So far I have:
Shinobi 3
Streets of Rage 2
Sonic 1
Truxton
Thunderforce 2
Starflight
Beyond Oasis
Shadow Dancer
Risk
My favorites so far are Shadow Dancer, Starflight, and Streets of Rage 2. Sadly, the only game I have been able to beat so far is SoR2 (damn that falling rock level in Shinobi 3, damn it to hell). But I am well on my way to beating Shadow Dancer at its default difficulty. I am convinced I will never see the end of Truxton outside of Youtube.
I am still a Sega n00b and there are many, many games I want to try out but I am loving it so far!
Just wanted to share.
Also, thanks for reminding me that I need to get Shinobi 3 myself. Damned fine game- perfect controls.

That level was the WORST when I played Shinobi 3 back in the day. I would run out of continues and have to re-play the whole damn game. Easily one of my fav gennis games tho. Like some one already said you need to pick up Shinobi 2. The controls aren't as nice. Can't air kick and stuff like that but the boss battles alone make it worth your time. You get to fight Spider-man, Terminators, and a guy that looks a lot like Bat-man lol
Beer it go good with pizza
Re: My First SEGA Year in Review...
The old Shinobi's are more arcade-like, so yeah they're different enough and hard for me to compare honestly. I'd say Shinobi 3 is easily one of my favorite games on the Genesis along with best soundtrack up there with Thunder Force IV, etc. But yeah that level is brutal, heh. You're close though.MulishaSoldier929 wrote:marlowe221 wrote: (damn that falling rock level in Shinobi 3, damn it to hell).

FYI, Thunder Force IV goes by "Lightning Force" here in the states. But yeah, I can't recommend that one and Thunder Force III enough! Get on those ASAP.

I haven't played III & IV yet. But Thunder Force 2 was a blast. I really like the idea of free-scrolling shoot-em up stages that were in it. I wish more games used that idea.Xeogred wrote:The old Shinobi's are more arcade-like, so yeah they're different enough and hard for me to compare honestly. Thunder Force V on PS1 is freaking amazing. That's the first game in the series I played, and probably my favorite shoot-em up on the PS1. Hell, it's probably my favorite shoot-em up ever, only 2nd to Lords of Thunder on Sega CD.

Re: My First SEGA Year in Review...
I like III-IV way more than V lol, but it's largely because I prefer the graphical style of the old when it comes to shmups. IV looks so insane for the Genesis too, can't believe how good it looks.
Too bad we never got VI over here, that one looks really awesome.

Re: My First SEGA Year in Review...
I burned a copy of the game for my modded PS2. It's pretty good. Like a trip through memory lane with all of the familiar bosses and designs. I think the best game to compare it with would be Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure for the Neo Geo Pocket.Xeogred wrote: Too bad we never got VI over here, that one looks really awesome.
