It looks like yet another Android-based device, but with dedicated controls. Akin to Xperia Play then?
But it seems to be intended to use real horsepower as well, which I guess is what enables the potential of linking with Steam. This seems like something new and may play into some comments by Valve (e.g. about Windows 8 ).

NVidia moves into the handheld market?
Re: NVidia moves into the handheld market?
Oh no consoles are doomed. Dooooomed!
Re: NVidia moves into the handheld market?
This isn't something that I'm interested in at all, and the design is really off-putting. It looks like a traditional gamepad with a screen attached to it. If anything, it looks like the sort of photoshopped image I'd expect for an April Fool's gag, but apparently it's a real thing. I'll view this thing as a technological curiosity, and little more. Just can't be bothered with it.
Re: NVidia moves into the handheld market?
I actually did a search for "Nvidia" before posting, but I didn't see any thread titles that duplicated it. I thought it was strange nobody had mentioned it yet. I think something like this deserves a thread title of its own - it could be Ouya level in significance, or it could be "just another android device" as well.o.pwuaioc wrote:http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 28#p702628
Personally I think the possibility of linking with Steam and also to be able to "stream" gameplay from TV to the device (Wii U style, I guess) are interesting. But I don't know how much market there will be for something like this.

I dont know why so many handheld emulation or otherwise consoles are something are coming out now.
Re: NVidia moves into the handheld market?
If it does Steam effectively, then that'll be a kick ass handheld. But it actually has to be able to play most of the games.
Re: NVidia moves into the handheld market?
Your PC will actually be what is running Steam. This handheld will only stream the content from your PC if you have the right Nvidia hardware which leaves anyone with an AMD/ATI video card out in the cold. They also recommend that you have at least a dual band 802.11n router.scarper wrote:If it does Steam effectively, then that'll be a kick ass handheld. Personally, I'm not too excited about this thing. Seems like it is just a small Android tablet strapped to a controller.

That sounds like way too much of a pain. I guess this handheld could be good for the homebrew scene. Though I can't see it being popular with the general audience.bmoc wrote:Your PC will actually be what is running Steam. Yet the same ability on a Wii U is praised constantly. That sounds like way too much of a pain. I guess this handheld could be good for the homebrew scene. Though I can't see it being popular with the general audience.
Probably because it's become like building PCs. There are cheap, capable system on a chips like the Tegra series that can pair with Android for a ready-to-use platform. As much as the phone/tablet space gets dismissed by some, the hardware (particularly) has improved at a phenomenal rate.IhatedSega wrote:I dont know why so many handheld emulation or otherwise consoles are something are coming out now.
By the same token, most of them are not their own thing, but rather a special-purpose Android device.
