Lists of things, some of the easiest to digest stuff written on the net. My associate has started writing the "Top Ten Games" for each year, started with 1990. However, I felt 1991 had the stronger year. (below is just the list, on the page he had descriptions on why and what not)
10.) Fuji Golf & SkiFree
9.) Police Quest III: The Kindred
8.) Lemmings
7.) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time
6.) Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge
5.) Civilization
4.) Street Fighter II
3.) Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
2.) Sonic the Hedgehog
1.) Super Mario World
Worst Game of 1991: Where’s Waldo
Now, the list isn't shabby, I like his variety. However, after he posted it, I felt he left out one very fun and well done game (that I am not sure if it holds up to the test of time, but I can see myself easily wasting quarters if there was one in my area), The Simpsons Arcade machine. Feel free to head over and berate him for overlooking the Simpsons game or any other games he missed.
(I can't help but give him props though for including SkiFree)

Re: Top Ten Games of 1991
"Top Games" lists are generally an insane proposition since they are too affected by time, legacy, nostalgia, backlash, influence, regional exposure, not to mention that no one in their right mind can say they love all genres equally and thus judge ALL games accordingly. As you will see, I can only really name arcade games because that's what I know and love.
And sorry for not creating traffic over to that site, but I feel like complaining about it here!
With this in mind...I've never understood people's love for TMNT. From 1991, I would say these games from the same genre are better for a number of reasons:
Captain Commando
Captain America
Knights of the Round
Sunset Riders
Battletoads
Genesis version of MERCS
And sure, if you want to appear cool it is fine to mention SkiFree...but at the expense of listing something like Fatal Fury or Xexex? Hmm...
Actually, the top five are not bad...although I would put them in a different order of course. SFII is the greatest game of all time.

Its Paco!

I think I put pressure to get SkiFree on there, I mean, it is his list, but I throw input in when I can. Him, a chick that works on our site, and myself all went in to nostalgic heaven talking about 5 minutes just on SkiFree. The game even semi-holds up today, it was really fun, easy to pick up (but obviously had no lasting real gameplay).Doctor Fugue wrote: And sure, if you want to appear cool it is fine to mention SkiFree...but at the expense of listing something like Fatal Fury or Xexex? I actually completely agree with this. He had Super Mario Bros 3 at the top of the 1990 list, but the Super Mario World at the top of 1991 ... meh, SMW was good and all .. but number 1.. I don't know.. (what I do know, is Sonic 2 always killed 1 imo.. so that better rank higher when it is time for their year).gennss wrote:You have sonic and mario reversed...

Very true, while SMW was a solid title, it failed to truly innovate on SMB3, while Sonic was a truly original title.gennss wrote:You have sonic and mario reversed...
