that article is over 2 years old. A lot of Saturn and DC games have been ported since.

I'm not sure what's so fanboyish. If the thread is basically about N64 vs PS1 vs Saturn then there's going to be opinions favoring one over the other.

Whoa, whoa. Commercial success, and ability / repertoire of a console are distinctly separate issues. Anyone who denies Saturn's lack of commercial success would be a fool. That's not what's happening here.

I was hoping for some more hard to find titles/hidden gems, they need to put Guardian Heroes and Radiant Silvergun on PSN.

The Nintendo 64 was a great console for my younger self. It was a great party system in which my friends and relatives gathered together to play classics like Smash Bros., Mario Party, Mario Kart, and Goldeneye.

^Notice all that was in the past tense. The N64 is probably the least played system I own. My tastes have changed and the 64 has lost relevance.

The PS1 and Saturn dominate in providing great single-player experiences. They both have challenging (and expensive!) shmups, overly-long JRPG's I likely won't finish, and the PS1 has a decent survivor horror selection that I like to revisit every now and then (Jill sandwich, ftw).

What did the N64 do better than the PS1/Saturn? Remain a fond childhood memory for when people actually got together to play games.

If I had to rate that generation the 64 would come in 3rd for me. Like a couple people have said b4 the controller is weird(as is the saturn 3d controller, I will give ya that) but not terrible like the gen 1 xbox hamburger. Although it has a number of gems, the library of great games just isn't nearly as large as the ps1/saturn IMO.

I still give the N64 lots of love tho. If you really want to see it shine just invite some friends over(beer helps too). It was/is the ultimate party system!

Rush ruined (non-cart) racers for me. I have never been able to get into them ever since. Where's the insane ramps that send me across entire maps? Where's the hidden keys and mountain dew cans in the huge levels that you end up exploring around for like you're playing an adventure game?

Those games kick so much ass it's not even funny. I love all three of them.

This thread got a little out of hand and I stopped reading everything, but yeah. I agree with a few people here. I grew up a Nintendo fanboy to the core and I don't regret it at all honestly, had so much fun with the wrestling games, Goldeneye, racing games, etc via multiplayer growing up with the N64. Eventually I got a PSX later in its life though and hit up some JRPG's, Chrono Cross was my first game I owned for it. Long story short I haven't looked back since basically. The N64 I probably haven't touched in at least 6+ years, but I've never stopped slowing down on the PSX collecting/gaming.

The N64 is good and I'll say the same thing about the GC and Xbox (somewhat...), but the long lasting champions of the previous two generations are the PSX/PS2 to me, absolutely no competition with the size of their libraries and genres.

I've barely touched the Saturn though, but I only see myself loving it for what it is mainly, the best console for arcade ports. I doubt I'll get as much variety out of it as I do the PSX.
