I got into Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams a couple weeks ago. It's better than I expected. I thought the detailed graphics would be too distracting, and they are a little bit, but it is still highly playable and the gameplay is solid. I like the music too, but I get just a little annoyed sometimes when I'm enjoying the soundtrack for one dimension and then I have to switch to the other. It's the right move for the game, but psychologically I wanted to keep the same soundtrack. I'm not sure that I like the alternating soundtrack thing, though it is a fascinating gimmick.Gamerforlife wrote:I've played a bit of Trine and Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams, both on PC through GOG. Awesome games! Trine's graphics are amazing and the voice acting and Lost Vikings style gameplay are great.
Giana has this cool mechanic where you switch between characters and the environment and music change as well. The music in Giana was just as amazing as Trine's graphics are. I definitely need to play Giana on a controller though, way too hard to do all that tricky platforming. Trine seems to play just fine on mouse and keyboard though, since there's more focus on puzzle solving than platforming
What platformer are you playing now?

Re: What platformer are you playing now?
you guys just reminded me. There was a Dreamcast homebrew game called Giana's Return. I downloaded two different versions of it, and burned both versions many times but could never play it. When it boots up it has a screen that says something like "this game is freely distributed, do not sell it" and then says "press L + R to start the game."
So I'd hit L + R. Nothing. L and then R? Nope. How about left + right on dpad? Left then right on analog stick? Maybe in the player 2 slot for some reason? Could not get the damn game to start.
I tried burning it using every program I could think of. They'd all boot to that screen but it was as if the controller just would not be recognized. I even went as far as contacting the developer. I received an email back saying something like "you just have to hit L + R"

Are the songs between the different dimensions completely different? Seems like it would've been a perfect place to implement some kind of channel fading thing like Banjo Kazooie does.J T wrote:I got into Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams a couple weeks ago. They are the same songs with different instrumentation. One has more guitars, the other is synths and stuff. It's kind of cool, it's just I sometimes get into one or the other rendition, but have to switch for the gameplay.AppleQueso wrote: Are the songs between the different dimensions completely different? For a moment I thought you were saying it was totally different songs, which would've been pretty jarring i imagine.

Currently playing a bit of Bug! on the Sega Saturn.
It's kind of a wacky type good-humored adventure.
Not bad at all. I'm having fun with it.

I remember reading somewhere that for whatever reason at that time Sega wanted to dump Sonic as their mascot and make Bug! their mascot instead.Thierry Henry wrote:Currently playing a bit of Bug! on the Sega Saturn.

No clue how true that really is, I can't seem to remember where I read it either and google has turned up nothing.BoringSupreez wrote:AppleQueso wrote:I remember reading somewhere that for whatever reason at that time Sega wanted to dump Sonic as their mascot and make Bug! their mascot instead.Thierry Henry wrote:Currently playing a bit of Bug! on the Sega Saturn.

Seriously?
I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Sega really did want to get away from Sonic in the Saturn era though. It'd certainly explain his absence.
