I look forward to the day that we could elect someone to the U.S. Presidency who practices Islam, a religion which is no more or less absurd than Christianity. I look forward to it because it would likely signal a shift in popular thinking away from the conflation of religious practice and governance, as the current entanglement of the two in this country is shameful.

I never did it enough to effect my lungs really, but I certainly noticed my sense of taste becoming stronger once I stopped having the occasional smoke. I never even detected it leaving me. It's enough to prevent me from ever starting back up.

I hope it comes sooner rather than later. If the constitution is going to have a part about freedom of religion, Christianity shouldn't be the only religion a president should be allowed to follow. I would be happy with any president with a different religion, just for the same reasons, but Islam would be the most noticed at this point. If they were Hindu or Buddhist, it would have the same effect I would think, but wouldn't be quite as much of a shock to the people IMO.

I look forward to the day when an atheist will be elected to the US Presidency. That will be the day we're a post-religious nation. Unfortunately, the last polls on the matter said a gay, black, female Muslim had a better chance than an atheist.
