Sync Problem?

Post by seanami »

I have an old XRGB2 with RGB SCART going into it. I have it hooked up to the DVDO EDGE via a VGA to 5 RGBHV cable. My Analogue CMVS and Sega Saturn works perfectly through this. However, most of my other systems are having trouble. A couple have a wavy picture and others have the picture flashing in and out.

Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks

A lot of RGB cables just use composite video for the sync signal which doesn't always play well with a lot of monitors and scalers.

If you know how to soldier, I'd suggest just building a sync stripper.

Sometimes it's simply a matter of rewiring the cable so that sync actually connects to the sync pin (I had to do this with my Genesis cable), but often you'll discover that a console might not output a proper sync signal at all.

I don't know if sync issues are actually to blame for what you're seeing or not, as I don't use any scalers or anything, but a sync stripper can't hurt.

Is there a way to do a sync stripper type thing externally to avoid having to do it to a bunch of cables? I saw the sync strike but it won't work in conjunction with the xrgb2.

Yeah, you'll just need to pick up a scart extension cable or something and put it into there and plug your scart cables into that.

I was suggesting putting the sync stripper before the XRGB, inside a scart extension cable.

basically like this:
RGB Scart cable form console - > RGB Scart extension cable with sync stripper in it - > XRGB - > DVDO - > TV

But if you need it between the XRGB and DVDO, same idea, just with a modded vga cable instead or something.

Oh that is a great idea. Would it matter which one I do it to?

I tried my friends SCART to HDMI sonverter (

I seems to work fine with everything, but of course the quality just isn't as good. Does this help confirm a sync issue? Or is it something else?

That converter probably handles sync differently than your equipment. Like I said, some stuff isn't too picky with sync signals, other stuff definitely is.

I'm not 100 percent sure that the sync stripper will fix your problem, I just think it can't hurt to try it.
