Sega Nomad - Is it Worth it?

Post by BogusMeatFactory »

I have a question. With all the various handheld renditions of consoles floating about for pretty cheap. Is it worth ever investing in getting a Sega Nomad as a collector's piece? They tend to run pretty high and I know the battery life is atrocious. What are people's take on adding that to a collection.

Is it worth it or not?

I'd like to know this too. A local store has it for $200? Seems absurd, but they tend to price high for almost everything. They have an unopened Sega CD for $250, which seems pointless- loses almost all its value the minute you play it.

If you want it as a collector and can find one at the right price, sure it's a cool little thing to have.

If you want it as a portable device that you're actually going to use then no, probably not.

This is one of those consoles I'll never buy because I don't have money coming out of my ass. I already own four Genesises and have never felt the need to play a Genesis game in a portable system.

If I found one for under $20 I would buy it.

I only got one because it cost me less than $40 to own. $200 is absurd.

I found 2 at a yard sale a few years ago. Sold em here for about $50 each (or traded them for $50 worth of games).

Not to mention you can just play every Genesis games on a PSP with CFW, or a Smartphone if you enjoy touchscreen controlfail.

If you mod them with the lcd and battery, they are great. As is, they are just a novelty genesis with terrible battery life.

I had one growing up (later on sold it) and if you mod it to have a better battery and LCD light then it will be good but honestly, it's not worth it as a portable system because it drains the batteries faster a college kid drinking a bottle of beer. That was the main reason I sold it was because it just wasn't really good as a portable system. Of course, this was before I started to collect games.
